Best streamer for a returning audio guy
I'm quite impressed with so many recommendations. I just use my CD player with a USB to the laptop or the Schiit Modi3 to the Laptop.  Its so much easier for me to choose music from Amazon Music/Tidal/MP3 files.  I think I would be lost to try and...
What's the heaviest speaker you've ever owned? What's the tallest?
One day: B&W Nautilus 801: 44"x21"x28" / 240lbs My 803 is: 42"x12"x17" / 75lbs and a pain to move given its shape.
Need Recommendations for a pair of Speakers around $1,000
The room size is very big, but bookshelf can fill the sound up in that room. It all depends on what you have to drive them and how loud you need to listen to music.  In the used market KEF LS50, Revel 106M, SVS Ultra, Wharfedale Linton 85 (slightl...
The Luxman L-595A SE integrated is coming.
Luxman is probably if not one of the best integrated amps in class A.  For those that own one, its a one and done situation as its that good.  Clean, simplistic and years of enjoyment.  I use Luxman 590 with vintage B&W803.  Zu's Audio Soul Su...
What defines mid-fi versus high-end?
People associate hifi with high end american brands.
What defines mid-fi versus high-end?
I've been call the midfi guy with Yamaha MX1, Yamaha MX1000, Yamaha AS3200 and Luxman L590.
Best upgrade: amp or pre-amp?
@erik_squires , I heard Luxman and I knew it was for me.  The L590AX MKII sounds spectacular.  It will be a rare gem down the line if it is not already, especially if they decide to stop making Class A.
After years of separates, I'm going integrated. Anyone else do the same?
I love separates and integrated amps.  Anyone in the hobby long enough knows we must have multiples systems to use and try out.  Especially when you come across vintage gear at low prices.  I enjoy music and love to switch it up from time to.  But...
Luxman L-590AXII vs Pass Labs INT-60
@georgehifi +1 on the Luxman L-590, I have to say its neutral, no color saturation or sound processing involved.  Very tonally balance and well controlled on your speakers.  The build and craftmanship is incredible.  On the back side of the Luxman...
Class A or Class D solid-state amplifiers (modern designs)
Matter of taste between A, A/B or D. But like many have suggested, technology has allowed for Class D to push the limits on competing with many high end amps.  However, I would choose class A any day.  Just knowing the parts used inside along with...
Best upgrade: amp or pre-amp?
@papyneau , McIntosh MA8950 is a fine choice.  Figure you have this brand already and would like to try something else.  I think the Luxman is a better match for the Focal Sopra 1.  Maybe you can demo in stores?  If I had to choose, Luxman for sur...
Affordable vs. ultra expensive speakers - what's the difference?
some people buy $50k speakers an its still not end game!  just use your ears to judge, difference between $5k speaker and $20k is not that much of a difference.  the difference in cost will be the name and material used to make it.  If I am about ...
What Is So Special About Harbeth?
Probably hade made with well quality parts.  As for the looks, I'll pass...
Schiit Freya + Class A in Stereophile
@bsme85 , 1000% true. I love the Freya+, best $1k spent. That matches so well with my Yamaha MX-1, I'm blown away by its warm sound with so much details in mids and vocal.  I think its sounds better than my AS3200.
Best upgrade: amp or pre-amp?
@erik_squires +1 here. Luxman is a superior made product and will probably be and end game integrated Amp.
