Volley...I'm sorry....I meant your experiment seems to have had a profound effect on your system. I have made many changes....low esr capacitors to my electronics but no changes yet to my crossovers. I'm using a NBS Professional PC on my Accuphase...

Your Blue note recording from '58 was probably recorded on a Ampex 3 channel. I find my best CD's are recorded around 58-63?....Verve Porgy & Bess with Ella and Louie A. is just a great recording. These Cast Duelunds have had such a profound e...
Tube Amp,Solid State Preamp.
I run tube amps with a SS preamp....I love it. Of course 16 300B's and 8 6sn7's is more than enough tubes to deal with. The plusses are I leave the preamp on continualy and I think the SS preamp balances with the 300B tubes nicely. look for a nice...
will adding a subwoofer improve overall audio
I agree run your main speakers full range and your sub at 50 or 80hz and below....I triend using the mains thru the crossover...degraded the sound...bad idea.
will adding a subwoofer improve overall audio
I agree with most that has been said...the improvement in added weight and realism is impressive. I use a NHT X2 crossover set at 50 hz....simple to set up. My sattelites deliver quickness, dynamics and punch and the sub delivers the power & ma...

You might find this interesting....Kevin Hayes being interviewed in Stereophile had this comment on the Fisher.... "I've been an audiophile since before I knew what the word meant, going back to the mid-'70s. I had an epiphany when I first heard a...
Acquiring an awesome system, but how?
As my SS friends say "He went over to the dark side"...Kinda Cheneyesque...but get some tube amps. You will never go back. I have a great SS amp...very transparent...but no match for my Vac's.
Does good technology guarantees musicality?
Reproduced music....can it be musical...you bet...can digital reproduce...big beautiful tonaly involving sound..well if it can't my system is a one of. A single component won't do it...can't. It takes a lot of work and a great deal of listening to...
CD has laid back and uninvolving sound
Dazz...very nice components. The Acoustic arts is a very fine dac but I have never had a piece of tube gear that couldn't be voiced differently by rolling tubes. It looks like the AA dac uses a 12ax7 so if your inclined I would try some different ...
CD has laid back and uninvolving sound
The biggest difference made in my digital system have been....1. Tubes 6922 Amperex D-getter gold pins....the soundstage went global...big and wide top to bottom.2. Coupling caps....big difference in dynamics and resolution.3. Power cable...focus ...

My experience is that with these ultra low noise caps...they are real sensitive to power quality. Maybe a hard wired component will suffice....but I have converted all my vintage to IEC 3 prong receptacles. I would not use a hard wired component.....

Here's another cap shootout....I agree totaly about the BG's and the Nichicon...as far as the Elna's I haven't tried the cerafine or silmic's yet. Recapping a Fisher will be a adventure...http://highend.projektas.lt/?tipstricks/6
Need help on electrolytic cap replacement
The black gates are the best....have not heard the new mundorf series but the M-lytics are very good. Also Rubycon Z series are supposed to be quiet. You're heading down a road that requires very good related equipment....I upgraded my preamp with ...

Most resolving solid state amp you've ever heard?
You've got some heavy hitters here...Solution,FM Acoustics, ect. I would think at this level they better resolve. I know the question gave no dollar ceiling but in the interest of being frugal....10K tops what's the choice?Btw I have a Accuphase am...
