Weiss 501 DAC
@adriaan I only tried Shunyata Delta and Alpha NR 2 PC. Both significantly opened up the sound stage and increased separation. I ended up choosing the Delta because it left a bit more meat on the bones and is what I’ve been running for a year or s...
Weiss 501 DAC
@vinylvalet excellent. Good to hear. I have no complaints going directly into the 501, but one always wonders if the grass is greener. I have a fiber connection to a Sonor to Shunyata Ethernet cable to the Weiss for Roon. Head and shoulders above ...
Weiss 501 DAC
I’m wondering if anyone has compared the internal Weiss streamer to having an external streamer like a Grimm M1
Is a McIntosh MA12000 a good fit for a Sonus Farber Amati Tradition?
I have Mc 601, c2300, and SF Amati traditions. So similar to what you are considering. The Amati are relatively new to me and it took quite a bit of work to get them placed properly. They are definitely more forward that the Olympicas I had. With ...
7.1 4 k Processor Rec
@soix thanks.  Definitely one I have been looking at.
Burn in vs perception
Okay, well, I am experiencing burn in / settling in a speaker cable. Cardas Cygnus long run, 6m. Replaced Wireworld Equinox. Mc to SF speakers.   When I first installed the cable, I was so excited to hear my improved system. It sounded awful (clo...
Warm vs Revealing—the struggle for balance
@jji666 glad you mentioned toe in as this can be a great way to manage overly strident treble. This has definitely been a tool I have used to manage my system’s treble.   I’d add managing a big window behind my listening position has been importa...
Warm vs Revealing—the struggle for balance
@ghdprentice thank you for the thoughtful response. I’ve just ordered The Complete Guide to High End Audio. Great suggestion. Take it slow is a good idea. I have the Amati Traditions— great speakers — and I think are good match with my Mc gear. I...
Warm vs Revealing—the struggle for balance
@mulveling and @mbmi yup. This is part of the fun of this. I have three systems that I’m always tweaking, because I’m a tweaker. That part of the fun for me and expense too of course. BTW system is feeling just about right tonight with the Cardas...
Warm vs Revealing—the struggle for balance
@waytoomuchstuff + 1 “IMHO, we've got push the resolution envelop past the point of "comfort" to learn which exit to get off on.  It's all part of the hit-and-miss experimental process.  Hopefully, time and money will also cooperative with this ob...
New DAC! Meitner MA3, Denafrips Terminator Plus, Holo May KTE, Mola Mola Tambaqui
So my DAC journey has been from Schitt to McIntosh (I have a Mc system) to PS Audio to Weiss (current). The latter three I used in my current configuration. I replaced the Mc, because of the sonic edges, with the PS Audio to provide an analog SQ. ...
Cable elevators
Okay, I’ve been enjoying the discussion, and listening. For the last week I have been listening to the system with the “building block risers” in my system with my Wireworld Equinox 8 speaker cables.    Today, I removed the risers—takes 30 second...
Cardas vs Cardas vs Shunyata interconnects
So, I got one set of Cygnus interconnects for my DAC to pre and using my borrowed Cygnus set from pre to monos. Holy hell—truly extraordinary. In my system these Cardas cables are like changing a major component like a DAC. Extraordinary sound sta...
Cardas vs Cardas vs Shunyata interconnects
So, here are my current conclusions. Let’s state the obvious—cables make a significant difference in SQ. Now the question we are always working on is not what is best but what works in our individual systems and to our ears.    So for my system, ...
Cardas vs Cardas vs Shunyata interconnects
@decooney I know I shouldn’t flip flop the cables, but I can’t help myself! Letting the Shunyata stay in the system for a while. Neutral, open, solid bass, detailed but not etched treble. I do think I need to try Delta interconnects.
