Does Every Track Sound Great on Your System?
Great question! The more you go up in electronics, the more revealing your system becomes. Sometimes there are differences in SQ within songs on a side of a vinyl record but more frequently the differences in SQ occur on different sides of an albu...
Worst Speakers Ever??
Panasonic Thrusters. Prove me wrong.
Re: streaming recommendations for newbie
I’m not aware of a less expensive high quality way to get into streaming than with the AudioQuest Cobalt DAC. It only costs a few hundred bucks. I also bought a quality AudioQuest cable for it. It plugs into your laptop. So for about 600 bucks you...
40+ watts SET, cost is not a problem
@paradisecom, yes, the Magma’s are monsters! The transformers are about twice as big as the ones on the NAT Audio Generators. The chassis is 26" long. The Magma M’s transformers are almost one foot tall! The sonics are much more pleasing than the...
40+ watts SET, cost is not a problem
I purchased the NAT Audio Magma M mono block amps from OCD Mikey in Atlanta. They are SET and have two power settings, 50 WPC and 130 WPC. Mikey demoed them with the TAD bookshelf speakers and The TAD’s sounded really great! After hearing them tog...
Am I right for this forum?
@snilf, to me, being an audiophile is your state of mind. It isn’t a currency threshold of your system. Interest in audio gear and seeking of related information is what drew everybody to this site so if you’re here then you belong. Of course the...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Right now it's Pink Floyd The Wall. America was the previous album. Not sure what's next or if I'll be done for the evening?
Are You A Disciplined Audiophile?
I bought a Transparent Powerbank 6 when I got back into hifi five years ago. It was pretty cheap brand new from the dealer. I think it may be just a glorified surge protector?  I've heard a lot of good things about the Puritan 156.
What the Best Dac have you heard or owned. How could you tell it was that good.
I use the AudioQuest Cobalt Dragonfly with my laptop. It's really amazing! I'm also running an AudioQuest cable with it to the preamp.
Planar Speakers and Diffusors
I don't use planar speakers but I did just put in a diffuser. I wasn't expecting much but wow what a difference it made! I use mine on the front wall between the speakers.  It sort of cleaned up the music. Enhanced separation between the instrume...

@emergingsoul, Thanks. The Magma New tubes are quite a bit bigger than the Magma M tubes. The Magma New chassis is also taller than the M chassis. I’ve listened to a number of different tube amp designs. I prefer the SET topography best of the di...

The NAT amps sound amazing. I just picked up the Magma M HRS mono's. I got home yesterday. I also own the 805 Generators, there's a picture of them in my virtual system. The Magma M's are single ended triode. The Generators are push pull triode. A...

I’ve bought gear from Mikey. I went down to Atlanta to pick up the gear. I bought his used NAT Audio 805 Generator mono blocks and a NAT Audio Symmetrical Balanced Line Stage that he coordinated the sale from one of his existing customers. I picke...
Volume levels
I always wondered why vinyl seemed quieter than CD's? Great responses from you guys, @cleeds , etc. Back in the day when we had cassette decks in the rig we could just adjust the output to match the CD player or turntable. Another factor to consi...
Floorstanding speaker experiences/recommendations in the $12-25k range
I auditioned the Dynaudio floor standers and Magico A3's during the same session. I don't remember the model but as I recall the woofers were a little bigger and, the cabinet was bigger than the A3's.  I went with the Magicos. The Dynaudio's were ...
