what is the best sounding speakers for under 5000.
I agree completely with Tpreaves. it's not going to be a competition at all. I just wanted to see for myself which ones worked best in my room, with my equipment, with the music I listen to. if you're in SF you're more than welcome to come by and ...
what is the best sounding speakers for under 5000.
I've got the Vapor Cirrus and Selah Tempesta on order now so hopefully I will be able to test out both of these before too long. I haven't heard either, but from everything I have read these are two of the best bang for the buck there is. The Temp...
Which Upgrade First - Cartridge Or Phono Stage
I have a VPI Classic with a K&K phono stage and the Soundsmith Zephyr cart, along with a Synergistic Research Tricon Analog phono cable. This is an amazing combination! I don't have a pre-amp, but use a volume control on my phono stage direct ...
Is good customer service about dead?
VPI! - I purchased a "new" Classic 1 from this site at a nice discount, but it showed up with what I would consider a build flaw and a small ding to the wood. I contacted VPI and sent pics. Even though this table was purchased from a non-dealer, a...
Tubes for your K&K Maxxed Out Phono?
in my manual it is in the "break-in" section. it's adjusted for each channel using R115/R215 while monitoring the voltage at TP2/TP4 relative to TP1 (ground). Kevin notes the original value as 1.6VDC, but says it is adjustable between 1.0VDC to 2....
Tubes for your K&K Maxxed Out Phono?
do you have the manual for your unit? it shows how to read and set this. my manual is for the kit though, so I'm not sure if yours is different since it was pre-built.
Tubes for your K&K Maxxed Out Phono?
Marchomeslice - I was referring to the trim pots for adjusting the "voicing" as Kevin calls it, by changing the bias current of the output stage. This is probably the hotness you speak of, which Kevin calls "incisive" in the manual and says you sh...
Tubes for your K&K Maxxed Out Phono?
Isn't the unit already supplied with what's considered the best tube in that family? Mine came with some '80's Voskhod 6N23P. I also tried some '70's version and heard no difference. Maybe you should use the trim pots and dial it back a bit if you...
Rega P5 vs RP6 purchasing dilemma
Learsfool - the subplatter was definitely an upgrade, you should try one. still, not the performance I would expect from a table of that price.
Cary SLI-80 Thoughts?
Shuguang Treasure CV181-ZAmperex JAN 7308 Orange gold pinsShuguang Treasure 6CA7-ZYou will love it. Major upgrade over the stock tubes.
Cary SLI-80 Thoughts?
The SLI-80 is a totally different amp with the Treasure tubes! I really cannot even listen to mine when switching back to the stock EH's. It's a very nice amp with amazing midrange, but as one poster said, it's not the last word in the bass dept.
Looking to get back into Vinyl.
I second the suggestion of Macdadtexas and do the Classic/Zephyr combo. you can get both used for ~$2500.
Rega P5 vs RP6 purchasing dilemma
The table was definitely setup properly. Even so, you cannot deny the terrible build quality and cheap materials used in the P5.
Rega P5 vs RP6 purchasing dilemma
I used a Dynavector 10x5 on my P5 with GT subplatter, dual white belts, and TTPSU. I didn't like the table at all. VERY cheap feeling (seems like a toy) and harsh sounding to me. Terrible build quality for something in that price range. Why not lo...
