Neil Young’s Lonely Quest to Save Music
Question- does/did Neil Young get it right with his Ponomusic system? The weak link is still the back end of that system for most average music consumers, no?
Please Help Me!!
When you’re set up I have some original release/first pressing/promo 8-track tapes that will make your system sound way better than the original engineers ever imagined.

Indeed, some labels tout their own unique formulation, so I'm inclined to agree with you.Yes. Remember “Quiex II”, “Quiex SV” and JVC’s Super Vinyl among others? They play very quietly. It takes more than minimizing re-grind to get records to play...

Having worked in the plastics industry most of my career I can confidently say that if you are doing a patent field search to find the ingredients in a vinyl resin formulation you will not get an accurate understanding of what’s actually being use...

Sorry, but there are many additives used when formulating the pvc resin pellets for molding vinyl records, including plasticizers. These are not applied to the stampers, they are formulated when making the pellets for vinyl records. Read here: ht...

Voiceofvinyl, plasticizer molecules? Another myth.  Sorry, a plasticizer is an additive to the vinyl formulation that keeps it soft and flexible and the right amount of it helps keep the surface of the vinyl, where it contacts the stylus- just sof...

BTW...Surfactants and Detergents are not quite the same. Photoflo is a surfactant with limited ability to dissolve oils and grease. It’s purpose is to break the surface tension (wetting) of the fluid it is added to and minimize the appearance of f...

I use Tergitol surfactants from TALAS (talasonline.com), put 10-20 drops per each into a gallon of distilled water to form a solution. This is what the Smithsonian uses to preserve records for their archives. No residue.I rinse with Distilled wate...
Selling my dads top of the line system
+1 to (ghasley). You should get the most for your dads fine gear but won’t if you try and list it yourself. If someone with an established history of selling hi-fidelity gear is willing to help- take it.Sorry about your father.
The term "High End" needs to die. Long live Hi-Fidelity!
Hi End Enthusiast: Someone who buys faithfully created music to brag about their audio ststem.Hi Fidelity Enthusiast: Someone who assembles a system to faithfully reproduce the music they love.
Help? Problem With Holding The Groove On A Hot Pressing
Thanks,If adding or subtracting small amounts of weight to/from the headshell changes the cartridge resonance, why wouldn't adding or subtracting some tracking force accomplish the same? The physics must be different?
Help? Problem With Holding The Groove On A Hot Pressing
Hi againI ran all the tests using a HI Fi News test record. I was especially interested in the lateral and vertical resonant frequency test. Both number ranges I got put the cartridge in the sweet spot now that I have the anti-skating set just sli...
First Post- what not to do
Don’t plug into full line voltage if it hasn’t been run in 25 years.
Help? Problem With Holding The Groove On A Hot Pressing
@ o_holterThanks. 98% of the occiasional skips I find are the result of some kind of condition flaw or pressing flaw.In a few rare cases, such as this one and a few others, there was no condition issue. I had to look at the grooves with a strong l...
Help? Problem With Holding The Groove On A Hot Pressing
@ mijostyn.Thanks. I have a few test and set up records inluding the Hi Fi News Analogue Test lp. I will go through it again and test for wobble and warble.I am also going to slowly add some anti-skating until I get to the point where I start to m...
