Herron VTPH-2A or Manley Chinook mk II phonostage
Female RCA plugs; infinite loading possibilities. Have some cake.
Herron VTPH-2A or Manley Chinook mk II phonostage
I've owned both. Herron hands down.I really don't like designs that put cheap microswitches directly in the path of the very small signal cartridge output. Not good when new and worse as the unit ages. Keith Herron came up with an elegant solution.
Larsen speakers ... anyone here heard or owned them?
Can't speak for the Larsen 9 though. Never heard it.
Larsen speakers ... anyone here heard or owned them?
One of the things that impressive most about my Larsen 8.2 speakers is how great they sound with my many mediocre rock recordings (played on both very high quality analog and digital source components). I have not experienced what others above hav...
What speaker – under $10k – has the best timbre and tonal qualities?
IMHO, ATC active. Probably why their pro monitors are used in most of the best recording studios. Removes the amp/speaker interface question as well as all the problems even the best passive crossovers present. No more need for expensive speaker c...
Women who enjoy quality speakers
My wife loves music and prefers it reproduced properly. She's a allowed four listening rooms and a recording studio. One is a Michael Greene turnable room. I'm very fortunate for this and other reasons.

Good luck finding a pair to audition. Very few dealers.BTW, I respectably disagree with sound_real_audio. My room, living room and kitchen, is very large. Definitely not a small room speaker.

I've had a number of speakers in our large living/kitchen area over four decades, some over $10k. My wife doesn't want speakers too far out in the room. I've finally found the perfect speaker for that room and those restrictions, the Larsen 8.2. N...
Speakers good for close to wall placement

Speaker Positioning
Another endorsement for Jim Smith's Get Better Sound. I've heard Jim's work both at his home studio and at shows. About the best sound I've heard in each case, regardless of the components used. I may be wrong, but I recall Jim saying that the Wil...
Power Conditioning / Surge Protection
Just on the dedicated audio line.
Warm romantic & detailed
Consider auditioning speakers in the Legacy Audio line.
Power Conditioning / Surge Protection
You're welcome tvad. It made a nice difference in my system.
Power Conditioning / Surge Protection
I think it makes most sense to provide surge protection, waveform correction and power conditioning to everything in your home by having an electrician install an Environmental Potentials EP-2050 in your main circuit box. If you have a dedicated c...
Relative Spending on Turntables and Cartridges
I recently installed a lightly used Lyra Helikon MC cartridge (rebuilt by Lyra in 2016) on an old Planar 3 (early 2000s) that has some modifications. The sound quality was spectacular. Placing the turntable on EVP footers was an additional improve...
