Lead Weight on a Nuforce 9sev2 I'v got my SE's sitting on top of a combination of small inner tubes with suede covered DIY sand bags on top. Vic
Ayre MR-X monoblocks - how good are they?? I've heard the MX and KX-R combination at a very good retail location but I don't think I listened to any "crap modern recordings". Still, I simply can't give a meaningful impression of any gear until I can put into the context of my own system an...
Can tubes ever be as quiet Solid State After all these years I've come to a love/hate relationship with tubes. My tubes now reside in the output stages of my front end gear, DAC and tuner. I gave up on the tube phono stages. I still own a tube amplifier that gets use from time to time ...
Pick a preamp for my system: Ayre or MBL What more can anybody add after Tboooe's experience? At this level it's generally a matter of taste.Vic
Where are you today? Only two tubes left. There in the output stage of my ModWright/Denon player. Leaving tubes wasn't a goal it was more chance steered by the availability of used gear. It seems I've become hooked on transparency and extension.I still own a tube ampl...
Nuforce 9 SEV2 mated to Transporter - what pre? My Reflection Audio Quantum battery powered preamp is essentially on all the time as are the SE's. The ergonomic beauty of this setup is a very low consumption of AC at standby and the only component that needs to be turned on is the front end com...

Will a Separate Amp Make a Difference Personally, I'm done with tubes in the back end of my system even though there is still one in the house. Is there any reason why you haven't considered a tube amplifier? My V-1 replaced a Cerwin-Vega amp from the early 70's so the difference was s...
Will a Separate Amp Make a Difference What are you unhappy with? Every change or substitution can make a difference, but just how much is very subjective. Speaker location and room treatment can have an amazing effect on many sonic parameters. My personal experiences have found the mos...

Novice ears or unrealistic expectations? Have your friend set your room up. Put the ipod in your pocket and decide on another source. A server with real files? What ever you do, don't buy a turntable!Vic
Are tube watts equal to solid state watts? I don't know about you but I like mine on white bread with mayonnaise, a little mustard, and lettuce.Vic
NuForce vs Red Wine Mentioning your speaker system, a general description of the type of presentation you prefer, and maybe the type of music you listen to, might help regarding your question. Just as important for anybody responding to such a query to clarify their ...

Tube sound with no tubes IMO the best of both worlds is a good quality solid state pre and power amplifiers with tubes in the output stages of your source components. Vic |
