What is the best subwoofer you have ever heard?
By far and away Servo-Drive Tech7's. For powered in home use nothing comes close to the Velodyne 1812. I heard a pair supporting a pair of Avalon Sentinels. Sounds like sever overkill but the presentation was sedately stunning. For HT you could sav...
Why are subwoofers so polarizing?
Why are continuing to berate a product that you have no personal contact with? You take your golden ear measurements at shows and other unfamiliar environments and come to some arbitrary conclusions. You have admitted to having no experience with Ve...
Why are subwoofers so polarizing?
I asked you twice about your experience with Velodyne subwoofers and you replied.["A few hours, the owner of the Velodyne had done the room acoustic settings. So I do not know which setting."]Clearly, you don't have a clue as to the potential of V...
Most demanding passages for a turntable & system
Thanks Boofer, Type IV it was. It's been some time when I did those setups.Yes, Rauliruegas the Shure mounted Technics SL1200 couldn't track the 1812. The Technics arm couldn't fully pass the Shure resonance test.
Why are subwoofers so polarizing?
Bo, I respect your passion for audio and being a dealer that seems to care about his customers. Your limited experience with Velodyne Subwoofers has left you with an understandable impression.Currently Velodyne DD Plus subwoofers offer the user th...
Amp to Add Dynamics & Detail to 'Polite' Speakers
The general presentation of switching amplifiers may be working against you (and I don't mean this in a derogatory way). The switching amplifiers I've owned didn't like silver anything. Check out NuForce cables. When I upgraded my AC mains to shie...
Why are subwoofers so polarizing?
Bo, Again, how much time did you spend dialing in the Velodyne's and which program did you use?

Bo, how much time did you spend dialing in the (which) Velodyne and which program did you use?
Why are subwoofers so polarizing?
Bo, I'm interested in your testing with REL and Velodyne. I had a chance to spend a few months with an expensive REL Studio III, JL Audio 113, and a Velodyne DD-18. The only measuring available to me was the Velodyne's built in Room Optimization s...
Very large room HT
Regardless of room size, IMO both 7.1 and matrixed 5.1 to 7.1 media is far more entertaining than 5.1. Use matched speakers, no dipoles. If this is a dedicated HT system I suggest going conservitave except for the display and the sub/s.
Where to go from Rogue M-150 amps?
After auditioning M-180s I settled on a pair of Carver 180s (230 watts). I didn't have the opportunity to compare them side by side. Even though there are a few things that seemed to stand out I don't trust my acoustical memory at all, sorry. I ca...
Tube Mono-Block Recommendation
+1 Dracule1. I found these inexpensive mods to my liking and well worth the effort. My Hypex nCores do what I think your describing in spades, unfortunately, you sacrifice the second order harmonic distortion characteristic that only tubes can pro...
Bob Carver LLC has been purchased by Emotiva
Audiozen by your own admission you purchased some Carver mid-fi at a low point.I purchased two Phase Linear 400s in the late 60s for use in a PA rack. They were knocked around for almost nine years and were sold in working order. I didn't know muc...
Most demanding passages for a turntable & system
The Shure Era IV tonearm resonance test and the Telarc 1812 Overture. My old SL1200 was fitted with a Shure V15 III cartridge. With the cartridge brush down I thought it could track the 1812. A close look at the cannon shot grooves showed the cartr...
Manufacturer Repairs? What is a reasonable time?
Elizabeth, unusually similar story but not my pre. I love dealing with little boutique works and have had honest service from all but this manufacturer. As I said, they were, and still are, notoriously famous for pulling the ol' oki-doke for servic...
