Which brand of 45 tubes do you use?
KR makes a 45 that they ship with their P-135 Preamp. Most KR tubes are designed so that although output is consistent with the spec for the tube, the plate dissipation is higher than spec allowing you to drive the tube harder to get more out of i...
Living room system: class A or AB amps?
Those speakers are tremendous.  A/B gear is going to run a lot cooler than class A.  I run low wattage tube amps and they run absurdly hot and warm my room.  Big, class A, SS amps are going to generate a ton of heat. Not going to be as cool as Clas...
Pure tube phono preamp
You need to check out a few productsArt Audio Vinyl One Copper Reference.  Ships with Silver Foil caps, variable gain and you can even add a remote volume control if you don't want a separate preamp.  This is a simple, straight forward preamp that...

One funny thing, even if a speaker is not rear ported, often times they perform best when given more space from the rear wall.  Try giving them a little more room, like 24" to 36" and you may find that sound improves further.  That much room may n...

How close are the speakers to the wall?  A little room from back and side walls could have a big impact.  Bigger driver on the Jade 3s might also help and those should be comfortably in your price range.
Is Not Responding To An Offer Just Plain Rude?
@stereo5 In scenario number one the offer is 33% below asking?  Yes, the initial offer is low, but I am not sure how rude it is.  They offered to buy.  Worst case, you can just straight up decline.  In the latter scenario, that is an arrogant pers...

So....I spent some time listening to the Jades and I am curious what the issue is.  The Jade 1s were maybe a little lean, but the Jade 3s were amazing.  I found them warm for my taste but with brighter amplification, they are brilliant.  A lot of ...
Is Not Responding To An Offer Just Plain Rude?
Offers are interesting and I guess it comes down to your philosophy.  I respond to all offers as quickly as I decide.  I have let one sit for a day because I was pondering it.  Automated rejects would be nice but then again, I like discussing thin...
Any small Horn speaker? Horn speaker lovers. (Piano sound)
You could look at the Avantgarde Zeros.  The Zeros don't have the larger horns like the Uno Finos but will give you most of the Avantgarde magic, especially when paired with the right amplification.  I picked up the line because of how well it mar...
I have atcsm40 want possible alternative
The Audiovector R3 is amazing.  Spot on your budget.  Ultra natural sounding and revealing even at lower SPLs.  That would be what I would look at.  Check out Andrew Quint's review in TAS from May I think.
Need advice replacing my preamp
The question is, if you are looking for fully balanced or a preamp with XLRs.  Fully balanced, I would add Rogue to your list.  The RP7 is fully balanced and at $5K is a great value.  Rogue will give PS Audio a run for their money in terms of cust...
Need advice replacing my preamp
Haven't heard the BAT.  I used to own the the PS Audio and it is wonderful preamp.  The stock tubes are awful.  It was shocking how bad.  I wouldn't have kept it for the year I had it had I not rolled tubes.  I used the NOS Tunsgrams that Upscale ...
Looking for a speaker for my LM 845 Premium
If you can afford them, Avatngarde Zeros would be a wonderful match.  They are a pain to setup but are amazing once they get dialed in.  They are not as bright as a lot of horns and will do well with a less warm 845 based amp.
Has anyone compared the Ayre KX-5 and the Moon 740-P
The Ayre is going to be brighter.  Ayre overall is slightly forward of neutral.  Great circuit.  Wonderful imaging.  Completely silent.  A cliche I suppose but Ayre has "blacker blacks" than anybody.  The volume control on this unit is very good. ...
Any advice? Parasound A21, Ayre V5xe, Benchmark AHB2, or Bryston 4B3?
I think the best sounding product between you options is the Ayre V5xe.  I have bought equipment that was driven by that amp.  It is built like a tank and Ayre gear sound incredible.  It is best when in a fully balanced system but is tremendous in...
