A good cd transport for my Chord HugoTT2 DAC with Chord M-Scaler
I would say based on my testing, the Jay’s is the best I have heard. I have had the Ayon here which is also quite good.  I have had the Luxman here and believe it is far better as a transport.  The DAC in it was underwhelming for the price IMO but...
DAC Shootout Starts This Weekend
@ddafoe i used the stock PSU.  They make an external from Weiss.  I just didn’t buy one.  I have considered adding it.  Compared to the Meitner, this unit is a step down.  With the external PSU I am sure it is much closer.
Floorstanding speaker experiences/recommendations in the $12-25k range
The fact that you love the Dyns is helpful and the Octave is a good match for that brand. Contours make sense and Dyn makes a very good speaker. The Contour is kind of a sweet spot in their line. If you want to go to a different tweeter type,...
Room Treatment suppliers
Vicoustic.  Wonderful line sold through Focal Naim North America
Where to go next with the turntable
This is tough.  I have owned Rega, Thorens, Linn, ProJect, AVM, VPI, Gold Note and SME tables.  My experience is that low mass tables like Rega are always going to leave a smidge to be desired in terms of bass.  Moving up may not give your more of...
Comparing streamer/DACs between $5-10k
What is the rest of your gear?  What other DACs you have heard that you like?  Do you have a software preference? The items you have listed are good but I would never put Meitner and Lumin in the same system.  They sound VERY different.  Need to k...
I Don't Understand What Determines When A Thread Gets The Axe
My hunch is that it was the mention of a legitimate retailer by someone in the thread that got this taken down. Can't have anything implying that a real retailer is associated with these scammers. No one at those two sites was going to complain b...
I Don't Understand What Determines When A Thread Gets The Axe
@deep_333 I had a thread where I highlighted two URLs that were obvious fraud.  These are not established sites or anyone I have beef with. I am not reposting as to not get this thread killed.  They have a lot of products listed that they don't ...
DAC Shootout Starts This Weekend
I have been promising you guys a review of the Weiss DAC 204 and here it is.  The real question is the comparison vs. the 501/502.  I don't have a 501/502 here at the moment for comparison.  I do have the Helios which is a bit unfair. Packaging i...
DAC/Streamer/PreAmp
This is a tough one as it is so open ended.  There are preamps with built in DAC/Streamers (AGD, Bricasti) and then there are DACs with volume controls and streamers built in (many others).   My experience is that for a single unit, preamp with b...
DAC Merry Go 'Round- why I stopped at Weiss
My experience is no…not because the clock in the Weiss is so good but more that the internal I2S connection provides superior clock synchronization. If you look at the pinout for proper i2s implementations the clock is synchronized in both directi...
DAC Merry Go 'Round- why I stopped at Weiss
So…my experience with streamers is that mid level units are good.  Key is, do you like the app from a lot of these companies and is the app stable, etc…. Auralic seems pretty good but, like anything, newer is better.  These things don’t age that w...
DAC Merry Go 'Round- why I stopped at Weiss
@mclinnguy I have only used the Antipodes K50 and Oladra with the Weiss.  Both are a step up from the internal renderer.  That said, I believe the best performance for price comes from an Antipodes K41 and using the on-board renderer.  It is tough...
Rockna Wavelight Music Server
I hear that there may be more options developed for the Wavelight that may not be developed for Wavedream NET.  I don’t know this with certainty as you never know how long new software will take to develop.  Not sure about memory player aspect.  I...
Rockna Wavelight Music Server
Wavelight server and Wavedream NET as servers seem very similar.  There will be more flexibility long term with the Wavelight server.  Obviously, the NET has the CD transport in it making it unique.  Both are excellent
