DAC Shootout Starts This Weekend
@david_ten  We are not talking about optimization and I think a big part of that stems from the fact that "optimal" is personal and there is no objective truth.  With people I talk to, there is a split between folks who want an image/soundstage la...
DAC Shootout Starts This Weekend
@david_ten I have been lucky to have heard dozens of these premium DACs with a variety of speakers in my home and in many friends and customers homes.  I am lucky.   On a relative basis, certain brands/DACs exhibit certain properties.  In any sys...
DAC Shootout Starts This Weekend
I know it doesn't seem obvious a server would make that much difference.  Part of it is the quality of the parts.  Part of it is the higher processing power and parts selected specifically for audio performance.  Servers make a difference more tha...
DAC Shootout Starts This Weekend
I have never heard the Manhattan II nor have I heard the Denafrips which is why they weren't covered off on.   Based on your setup, I would look to replace the Mac Mini as part of any upgrade.  Even a Roon Nucleus will be a huge upgrade and will ...
speaker choice for new 20x30 audio room
There are a few incredible products in that price range, even at the lower end of your budget.   The Revel Performa3 F208.  This is an older speaker but is awesome sounding and because it is made in Malaysia, it is a killer value and at $5500 is ...
NAD M10 Streaming Amplifier
One quick note, you may see the M10 vs the M10v2.  You really want the v2.  It is a much better unit for a variety of reasons.  The DIRAC Live in the original M10 was not great, much better in the V2.  An installer I work with bought a demo from m...
Best Server To Run Roon Core
@lafayette2010 Every company has products that fail. No one is perfect but Roon service is usually extremely good. Did you post on the forum? Who were you talking to in support? Your ticket may accidentally have been closed. It is very unlike Roon...
newer CD player w/DAC that could replace AMR CD-77.1
What is your budget?  I would encourage your to look at Canor for tube units or Cyrus for SS.  These are just objectively good CD players but might offer a different suggestion depending on your budget.
What say you?
This is always fascinating to see how controversial this topic is.   Given dealers willingness to send demos out to customers, it is easy and inexpensive to test cables in your system.  As a dealer, I have now had the opportunity to test lots of ...
Bluesound Node2 with outboard DAC
The DAC in the Node 2 is not the best.  Adding an external DAC will improve sound and yes, eventually the Node would be limiting.  I wouldn't pair it with a Rockna Signature but a Chord Qutest, Questyle CMA 12 or 15, etc... woudld be a good match....
Weakest digital link: DAC - Streamer - Server?
IMO, a NAS should outperform Tidal depending on the quality of the drive you are using for the NAS. One of the reasons you want a server is to tame the extremely volatile internet. If you are just using a streamer, it has to work harder to settle...
The Proverbial "best amp" for Focal Sopra No. 1
Naim.  Those speakers are voiced using Naim amps and Naim is owned by the same parent company.  Naim and Focal go together like peanut butter and  jelly.
Preamp shootout: Linear tube audio, Modwright, etc.
The two I can think of that could be interesting are: PS Audio BHK Signature AVM Evolution PA5.2 In both cases the stock tubes are not optimal.  In the case of the BHK, there is a pair of NOS Tunsgrams that really brings the unit to life and it...
Comparing Speaker Cables
My advice is to pick a small number of tracks and take very careful notes.  Listen for the extremes and pick tracks that are hard to reproduce.  This is the best possible way to do these kinds of comparisons.   If, based on your notes, you don't ...
Chord TT2 - use Tidal or Qobuz?
Qobuz is better choice for Chord as you point out about MQA.  The primary reason you would use Tidal is if you prefer Tidal's library and some of the other functionality.  That being said, if you are a Tidal fan, Chord might not be the right choic...
