which tube mono blocks? FWIW: While researching tube amps also research tube types. My VTL's can take 6550's and KT-88. I like having that option. Search the forums there are many that go into great detail about how a particular type/brand sounds.

Into 2009; What rules?? Tubes or Solid State I agree with Tvad."One's choice is dependent on correct amplifier/speaker match, and on personal listening priorities." Most tube amps require lots of maintenance. SS amp are on/off and dust them off.
Wilson better than Thiels? Unsound: Lately I have been feeling like I may be missing something not having a big high powered Solid State amp (s). I got a good deal on a pair of Classe CAM 350 mono blocks. I'd read the reviews and a friend has a pair in use with his B&W ...
What's the oldest piece of gear in your system? A mid 70's Technics SL-1300 automatic turntable. I am just to lazy. I also have an early 1980's Technics SL-10 Linear Tracking Automatic turntable with Technics 310 MC cartridge. A truly unique device.

Wilson better than Thiels? I used to think my Thiel CS6's were bright until I started to feed them properly. Like many of the great speakers they require a lot of care with regards to location, cabling and related equipment. They are unforgiving and will reveal any weakness...
which tube mono blocks? I have a pair of Acoustat Spectra 33's and when in use they are powered by VTL 300 Deluxe Mono Blocks. Plenty of power with lots of finesse.

Need tube advice Buying the tubes from CJ may be pricey but if something goes wrong later. The first thing they will ask "What tubes are in the amp(s)?" Then you can say back "THE ONES YOU SOLD ME!"I always buy matched power tubes plus one or two just in case, to ...
Best Buy beta testing Vinyl sales I was in Best Buys today and they had new vinyl for sale. Not a huge selection but it's a start. I bought U-2's The Joshua Tree for way less than the online price. Sad, can't find the SACD/DVD-A section anymore. |
