Laserdisc Dynamics vs Blu Ray
Yes, the box set is the "Widescreen" THX Special Edition.
First "real" TT...
I've gone through three phono stages. Finding the right (for my gear) pre-amp was the key to good vinyl for me. After getting my first Technics TT I was given this advise. Get hold of a Sumiko HS12 Headshell. They are a little pricy but adds mass ...
Laserdisc Dynamics vs Blu Ray
I had chance the other night to do a comparison of Laser Disc and DVD. I just received a new DVD copy of “Russia House” the picture on my old LD is not that good. The DVD’s picture is outstanding. Very detailed and clear. I sound is another story....

Laserdisc Dynamics vs Blu Ray
I still use my Laser disc player. I have a few movies that were released "Letterboxed" on Laser disc but only released "Pan & Scan" on DVD. As for picture, it is only better than VHS tape. Sound wise is where I really like it LD. Many DVD's an...
Recommend tube meter
My little Radio Shack digital multiple meter is easy to use. It cost about 50 bucks a few years ago. They also have traditional devices with analog gauges/displays which are very cool looking but tough to read without enhanced training;-)
First "real" TT...
I've never had any luck with used gear on ebay. I think mint condition does mean the same thing it means here on Agon. Another vote for the Technics 1200 series. Un-modified or KAB modded it's a great. A bit ugly but still a great performer. It ha...

Cartridge re-tipping service: worth it?

advice needed to purchase first DAC
USB DAC’s are all the rage. My recommendation is to go used and get more for your money. There are a lot of great DAC’s that are being sold simply because they don’t have the latest fashion in connection means.
What music do you use to audition new gear?
For many years I’ve used Cinemagic by Dave Grusin. The CD dates from the late 80’s. It’s not particularly well recorded but I know the album. It has low level strings and piano passages along with boomy brass and orchestra sections. The key is I k...
New LP with pops + crackle, What is expected?
I stopped buying "New" vinyl from the online stores. I will buy NOS online. Used vinyl played with a deep tracking cartridge/stylus works well for me.
Death of the Tech 12
This is where I was linked to from audiocircle.http://www.inthemix.com.au/news/intl/45075/Technics_is_deadMy first instinct was to rush out and buy another 1210. The prices will be going up but then the light went of over my head. The Chinese will...
Best Hard Drive and Enclosure for Music Server
In three years I've had 3 outboard hard drives. Seagate, LaCie and Western Digital. The LaCie matched the Mac Mini and really looked cool and only lasted a month. The last Seagate lasted less than a week. They both came in sealed enclosures. The W...
