Questionable service at Soundsmith
A few years ago I had a cartridge retyped by Soundsmith, it took 8 months. From my forums reading, I expected a long wait but 8 months without an email or phone call, really.
Retired audiophile?
Yes, I am retired.  Your original post rings true for me. I retired last May, yet I've been done with my main system for a few years.  These days it's maintenance and listening.
Automatic Tables
A few years ago I had a Technics SL-1300, nice machine, it's really worth a look.  It handled my AT-150 and a Denon DL-160 cartridges nicely.  Also look at the Technics SL-10.  I have two TT's in my system and the SL-10 gets most of the work. Play...

Sound quality of Genesis remastered CDs?
I agree, the newer remastered CD's are not very good.  I purchased a few, hoping they would sound better the original CD's.  I ripped them to my Mac Mini music server and used the equalizer in iTunes make them sound a little better.
Do you remember when Audiogon was just a bulletin board classified ad site?
Yes, I'm an old-timer.
need help moving to NAS and RAID
Re-ripping huge numbers of music is a pain. I’ve had a few Hard Drive failures over the years so I’ve gone a little back-up crazy. I use a QNAP TS-251 NAS for whole house back-up’s and streaming ripped movies on multiple smart tv’s. The enclosur...
How to store headshell and tonearms safely
I use the dense foam rubber packing material and cute out the shape of the head shell with a utility knife. It looks silly but it functions well.
Mono Blocks for B&W 801 s3
I use B&W 801 S-3's. Before settling on my current amps, I used Classe CAM 350 mono blocks. Also, I auditioned a pair of Bryston ST7 amps. Both were outstanding performers. The Classe was the best of the two for me. Plenty of power and very sw...
THIEL Audio their demise...
You guys are killing me, LOL. Because of the thread, I had to connect my dusty Thiel CS-6's and the matching SS1 sub. The 6's are not the greatest dance partners, these beasts are heavy! I have not used them in three years. Change is good sometime...
Why are records still warped?
03-30-15: Zd542"Many of my "not" Golden-era pressings from the mid-70s through late-80s also lived up to expectations when I got them home. Many more did not, and that's why I ended up jumping on the CD bandwagon with a Sony CDP-101 in 1983."Me to...
turntable with detachable headshell
The link is to a forum post regarding the new Pioneer 1000 turntable. Interesting reading. Look into the Jelco line of tonearms and mating one to a Sota Satellite II w/S202 table or like.http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=132804.0
Has anyone noticed...
Check out the movie "The Time Travelers Wife". Tube amps and vinyl!
How Do You Feel about The Cable Game?
Here is how I played the game. Seven years ago an audio buddy and major collector send me home with a bunch cables to try, all leading brands at the time. It took weeks to audition them all. I ended up buying mid level MIT because they sounded the...
Classical music comps
Telarc made my favorite "Show Off" disc's. I have two that I use for non audio types. "Time Warp", it has the themes from "Star Trek' and "Battle Star Galactica" on it. The other is also a Telarc disc titled "Star Tracks" and it has "Star Wars", "...
