Connecting a DAC directly to an amp? George, I thought Chord used FPGAs.
Connecting a DAC directly to an amp? My bad!. I was thinking in terms of the typical, not the OPs specifics.Never mind🥺
Connecting a DAC directly to an amp? With many of the newer high bit DACs (e.g. 32 bit) and depending on the input sensitivity of the amp (typically about 26 dB), and with about 12 dB attenuation per bit, even with the typical maximum 24 bits for most hi rez formats, one would most l...
Thiel Owners @yyzsantabarbara, I think you read too much into my previous post, I merely meant that with their contrasting color quadrants that they looked like a harlequin. | |
Streamer's without built in DAC options? Do you want to replace the Nucleus?
Thiel Owners @yyzsantabarbara,FWIW, I typically don’t care for black finished speakers, but for the very reasons you’ve suggested, I think the black finish could help disguise the harlequin effect the often 3.7’s present to my eyes.
Thiel Owners A couple of thoughts regarding moving speakers closer together. One should be aware that as one moves the speakers closer together that you would also be moving the speakers closer to the listener. As such, it could affect driver integration. In o...
Should I use long interconnects, or long speaker cables? I think the standard recommendation for ”long interconnects/short speaker cables” first came about back when everyone was using tube amps and zip cords. I’m not so sure it’s as important with the ss amps and the heavier gauge speaker cables often ...
Thiel Owners @yyzsantabarbara, the previous Thiel’s were laminates. I suspect the same holds true for the 3.7’s. Though they came after Tom Thiel’s departure, I doubt you’ll find anyone with more insight regarding Thiel’s cabinetry. He’s a master at such things.
Amp upgrade for Thiel CS 3.7 ^There were others, and better than the Bryston’s too. Gryphon had a inconsistent presence in the US for a while, but I'm confident Jim knew what was going on globally. For the reasons mentioned above, I think Jim Thiel would have chosen the big K...
Amp upgrade for Thiel CS 3.7 ^That is your subjective opinion. Not all would agree. While it's impossible to know for sure, I'll hazard a guess that Jim Thiel would have stuck with his Krell power amp over the Gryphon integrated. Once again, it depends on the circumstances. ...
Amp upgrade for Thiel CS 3.7 ^Jim Thiel recommended the Thiel CS 3.7’s for an amplifiers up to 600 Watts, and used an amplifier rated at 600 Watts during their development. Why? With the appropriate amplification, and especially when coupled with Thiel's own subwoofers; the C...
Amp upgrade for Thiel CS 3.7 ^” No you don’t need more power...”for a larger room? You might not, but somebody else might.
Amp upgrade for Thiel CS 3.7 ^Just because it might suit you, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the best choice for all. Some with particularly large rooms, might be better off with more powerful amplification commensurate with the CS 3.7’s power capabilities, and depending on so...
