Upgrade for Thiel 1.6 - Or a waste of $$ Hardly a "gimmick". Relieving a driver from this stress, reduces compression, allows for greater dynamic range and if the subs are seperately powered, allows the main amplifier to work with less stress. This may be more so with typical class A/AB ...
Johnny Hartman with John Coltrane They don't get much better than that.
Thiel 3.7 Prices have just been released: $4950 to $5500 EACH depending on finish. These babies better be able to offer some seriously good sound with extended bass response and hopefully a gentle impedance. Geesh, remember when Thiel 3 series had an MSRP o...
Distance/Screen SIze Formula? Ellery911, good catch. Thanks for keeping us up to date. It does get frustrating when individuals ask for help and don't even bother to follow up.
Upgrade for Thiel 1.6 - Or a waste of $$ The Acurus is certainly up to driving your Thiel's, but, other than what it can do in the lower registers, I don't think you'll care for it with the Thiels. There is a conrad-johnson MF 2300 currently up for sale here on audiogon with an asking pr...
Rowland for biamp? The Rowland 7's were in the top tier in their day, but, bass was not it's forte'.
Best SS amps with sound similar to tube amps Christobyl, while I agree with you on most things, I beg to differ with regards to the wholesale condemnation of bi-polar equiped amps. While it's true mosfet amps generally tend to sound more like tubes, that doesn't necessarily mean that, that's...
Distance/Screen SIze Formula? Donbellphd, is right on. I suspect that long time exposure to previous technological limitations has perverted our perceptions on correct screen size for the home.
Best SS amps with sound similar to tube amps Christobyl, thanks for chimming in. The Carver is the only ss amp I know of that was specifically designed to mimick a tube amp. Not just any tube amp, but, a highly respected one that was considered by many to be a classic representative of what ...
Thiel 3.6's vs. Vandersteen 3 sigs While the differences between Thiel and Vandersteen seem to be very apparent to those on this forum, it surprises me that so many here, besides the Bdunne and Stevecham, fail to hear how much they have in common. My final decision ultimately came ...
What speakers work well with Boulder ?? I haven't actually heard them together, but, Thiel lists Boulder on their top short list.
Threshold's Jon, can you confirm one way or the other, that the pre-optical bias boards are blue and the optical bias boards are gold?
Best SS amps with sound similar to tube amps Carver?
Whats more important? Speaker or the Amp I believe the speakers are the first consideration between the two. Speakers have to be chosen to work in a given room, which can vary quite a bit. Speakers are probably the least accurate component in a system, therfore one should find speakers t...
Any thoughts on Krell FWIW, I've sorta thought Krell sold out a bit. I'm a big fan of their class A audio amps, but, don't think their integrateds and home theatre gear are worthy of the name. Seems a bit misleading to me. Go figure. |
