Why not horns?
IME, horns are capable of producing a very good sound stage, but not very good imaging.
Is Accuphase E-560 a good match for Thiel CS 3.7?
Start with an amp capable of 200 Watts into 4 Ohms.
Why not horns?
JohnK perhaps the horn enthusiasts should temper their excitement as well. Newcomers are just as easily influenced by the hyperbole as well. The opening of this thread practically invited the negative reaction.

Raising the roof, might be a good idea. Changing the 20 X 20 dimensions would be a better one. There are classic ratio models that I strongly suggest you consider before proceeding. One models suggests "...that the second largest dimension should ...

Atmasphere, we may haven taken different paths in the woods, but we're in the same woods.:-)

Herman, well said.
Why not horns?
Herman, While all systems deserve considerations regarding placement, associated gear and room treatment, I don't remember box speaker, or for that matter any other speaker design enthusiasts making such prerequisite qualifications. Are properly i...
Why not horns?
Popularity is not synommous with quality. Horns have been around a long time, for a number of reasons. Perhaps, because of early amplifier limitations and/or perhaps because much like today, they work well for creating great volume for great space...

I think most here would agree that the SCVI's would be overkill in this application. Tapering the side walls to create a back wall of about 13' would be just about perfect for SCIVa's. Besides the added construction challenges, the effort would cr...

Preamp pairing with B&K ST-140
Before considering a tube pre, consider the relatively low input impedance and soft lower end of the B&K ST 140.

Alissatweaks, That's what I thought. With that in mind, is there a reason the room is 20' X 20'? Doubling dimensions is usually not the best way to go. I don't share your disdain for audio processors, and with those dimensions, such a piece of equ...
