Ayre V-Kxe and Thiel 2.4s Charles1dad, my post was a direct response to a question Stevecham asked in the previous posts. The ability to reach a certain volume level is no way the only, or the most important criterion. One can listen to such volume levels with some frequen...
Is good customer service about dead? The best customer service I've ever had, from any business, has been from Thiel.
Ayre V-Kxe and Thiel 2.4s I know this is somewhat arbitrary, but I think a system with high end aspirations should be capable of 100 dB peaks.
Class A amplifiers - which are considered the best I was referring to the Krell KSA 80, KSA 200, KMA 160, KMA 400s.
Class A amplifiers - which are considered the best Goerge, Krell had some Class A amps sans fans before Plateau Biasing, yes, with copious heat sinks. Still amongst my favorites.
Best Rock Drummers Erikminer, mentioned Billy Cobham. Man, can that man play! I remember swimming wind sprints with his beats in my head. That'll move ya!
Best Rock Drummers I don't know about best, and he's played various musical genre's, but I've always appreciated Steve Gadd.
Dumb questions? I'd be careful when using wrenches, besides scuffing the posts and possibly devaluing the resale value, you might strip the posts. A tight connection is absolutely needed, hand tightening usually works. I have an old plastic "Postmaster" specifica...
I've strayed.... It's those autoformers that make the Mac's behave more like tube amps.
I've strayed.... You do realize that you might have picked the ss amps that might most behave like a typical tube amp? If your speakers really aren't tube friendly, you might not have picked the most appropriate ss amp.
Wyred 4 sound vs Red Dragon digital mono blocks?? I think some of the progress in Class D amps has been due to better isolation of RF, etc.. Another difference between otherwise similar Class D amps, is the input impedance, some are more generous in their compatibility with tube pres.
Manufacturer checkups Some older gear might be in need of some refurbishment, such as new caps, re-bias etc.. If the unit in question comes with detailed documentation of the "checkup", even if it was for a repair, I'd consider it a plus.
Is anyone thinking about building Walsh drivers? Westborn, your not alone. The link to Dae Harder's site is worth checking out, as are the archives here on Audiogon.
How are Hig-End Speakers Priced? I think that's why we're starting to see catalogue merchants like Crutchfield starting to carry high end lines.
Maybe a new amp for Thiel CS2 2? I don't suggest buying speakers for an amp, especially a ss amp that can't double down. The Thiel 2 2's aren't an especially a difficult load, for a Thiel anyway. For an amp that won't be harsh, with some grunt, and that would be compatible with y... |
