Ayre V-Kxe and Thiel 2.4s
Thanks for the update. I look forward to reading about continuing quest.
seek a threashold power amplifier
I've been told that the two different amps are based upon the same chasis etc.. Threshold was very conservative about their use of transistors, with only about 20% of total capability actually used. As was mentioned above, each unit had two very l...

You might have more luck finding a pair of SA 12e's and sending them to some one like Jon Soderberg of vintage amp repair to have them re-biased to the S 1600e's specs. The SA 12e's pop up from time to time, but the S 1600e's not so much.
size of the driver
Some have argued that larger drivers will have greater energy storage, and correspondingly slower energy release.
McIntosh Mc202 or Conrad Johnson MF2300a amp?
Can't speak for the Mac, but though the c-j ss amp isn't quite as neutral as some others, it's still a delightful amplifier. Without knowing your speakers, etc., it's all rather moot.
Does this amp have a problem or is it OK to buy?
I have no personal experience with Jolida, but their reputation for reliability has been less than stellar.http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4ADFA_enUS412US415&q=jolida+problems
Anyone heard of Audiostatic?
Dutch electrostatic speakers. Typical esl sound, with both the positives and negatives that usually connotates. If you like esl's, they're definitely worth a listen.
Amp design logic
River251, With all due respect, based upon another recent thread you started, I think, at least for the present time, you might be in way over your head. Just think of the appropriate test equipment you'll need. It's not as simple as plug and play...
Which B&K ST-140?
River251, Speakers have minimal impedance and nominal impedance. One should know not only the impedance swing of a speaker, but also the phase angle before choosing amplification for a given speaker. What is a low impedance? What is a high impedan...

Which B&K ST-140?
The B&K ST 140 is not the best choice for low impedance speakers.http://www.stereophile.com/content/bk-st-140-power-amplifier-1989-measurements
Tubes vs Solid State
Us the right tool for the job at hand. B&W's work better with ss, some other speakers work better with tubes. Choose your speakers, then choose the appropriate amplification.
Tubes vs Solid State
...And many of us clearly find that lower impedance speakers, and ss amps are the better approach for more natural/real sound.
Tubes vs Solid State
There are many reasons why a speaker designer might choose to use a low impedance, one of which, as you have alluded to, is that it's easier to get deeper bass response with a lower impedance, (at least with most typical dynamic speakers).
Most resolving solid state amp you've ever heard?
FWIW, playing with word association: Spectral comes to mind first.
