8-Tracks and Open-Reels: Who’s Got ‘Em and Whatcha Got? I have to say, my refurbished Pioneer H-R99 sounds pretty damn good to my ears if playing new tapes or older tapes in good condition. I was surprised. I know that the format is inherently limited (or shite), so I definitely don't listen to 8-track...
External Power Supply for Octave V70SE: What Improvements to Expect? @audiosaurusrex:My room is quite small--about 9x10. The listening environment is as good as it could be given the city noise. I have three dealers I regularly go to, only one of which carries Octave. Unfortunately, that dealer is quite far outside...
External Power Supply for Octave V70SE: What Improvements to Expect? @audiosaurusrex:I usually listen at low to medium levels during the week. I live in the city so I have to be conscientious of my neighbors. On weekends, I’ll sometimes listen fairly loud.
Rega P3: Neo PSU or New Cartridge? @noromance Thank you for the explanation; that’s helpful. @scm I noticed improved speed and pitch control. It also seemed that the playback was a bit “clearer,” maybe due to the higher quality bearing in the GT Reference? I’m not sure.
What are the current useless terms in this "audio world" I admit that I don’t know what “musical” is supposed to convey. Seems like it’s just a lexicalization for “I like the way the music sounds when played through this component.” But if it means something more specific, I'm open to correction.
External Power Supply for Octave V70SE: What Improvements to Expect? @audiosaurusrex:Thank you! I love this amp very much. The midrange is perfect for my ears. The V70SE is driving a pair of Harbeth P3esrXDs—I’m not sure whether those count as “sensitive” or not relative to other speakers. Their sensitivity rating ...
Rega P3: Neo PSU or New Cartridge? @jasonbourne52:Thanks for your recommendation, though I think I’ll probably avoid MCs for the near-future. My phono stage was recently upgraded to a Lehmann Black Cube SE II, so I don’t feel the need to upgrade that just yet. Could someone briefly...
What's been your turntable ownership over the years? My very first was a Technics automatic the model of which I forget—but it was mine. Then I moved to an Audio Technica 1240. Then I moved to a Pioneer PLX-1000. Then I moved to my current (2) Technics SL-1210GAEs (which I doubt I’ll ever, ever let ...
Technics SL1210GAE + Accuphase E-480 (AD-50) + ??? (cartridge) I like the Ortofon 2M Black on my 1210GAEs.
Tape deck repair in the Chicago area Electronic Engineers is really good.
What DAC upgrade made you say “DAMN, that sounds SO MUCH better than my last DAC”? I was using a Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200m (which I still like and use in my second system) before I got a PrimaLuna EVO 100 DAC. The sound was much warmer and brought some life into the usually (to my ears) clinical or ‘dry’ sound of digital. I ...
Opinions and choices for a small speaker for mid sized room. I’m a huge fan of Harbeths. I have C7ES-3XDs and P3esrXDs, the latter being what I use in a small room for near-field listening. They are very detailed and I don’t find them fatiguing at all. The mids are rich and the bass is controlled (not at al...
Speakers for triode tube amps I have a pair of P3esrXDs running from my Octave V70SE and very much enjoy them. I’ve also hooked them up to my PrimaLuna EVO 400 integrated and love the warm sound they produce when the 400 is in triode. I am aware that some don’t like the sound ...
Streamer/DAC+integrated vs All in one? I think it depends on whether you see yourself continuing with the hobby and going deeper down the rabbit hole. If you know you’ll want to upgrade in the future, I think it’s a good idea to keep the digital components separate from the amplifier. ...
Anyone have experience with Octave integrated amps? I have an Octave V70SE and love it. Controlled bass and warm pronounced midrange. I listen to vinyl, cassette, reel-to-reel, and digital through it. It sounds good all around to my ears. The bias adjustment is very easy too. |
