Audiophile USB to PCM
Yes, I mean convert mp3 to wav. I can't imagine it has anything to do with processing power. If my ipod can do it at all then my 3.0ghz machine should be doing it effortlessly. One thing I haven't bothered to do is a .wav on the hdd versus the sam...
Audiophile USB to PCM
Edesilva, I've had the exact same experience too in comparing VBR mp3 and a .wav out of an M-Audio Firewire Audiophile. Interestingly enough, if I convert the VBR mp3 and burn it to disc (I use the program burrrn. It's free, uses LAME to decode an...
Large Audio Libraries
What you want is a library that searches and manages by filename (or compiles a database) rather than ID3 tag (this is, of course, assuming your filenames are up to snuff). I'm not sure what WMP does, but guessing from the slow speed you report on...
Which CDR is the best for audio?
I've never been able to hear the difference between anything that actually plays. The only difference between cd-r brands which is obvious to me is in how long they last.
Meridian 565 w/dts update vs Classe ssp 25THX
Haha, nice. That drive-thru speaker "system" in mono is awesome!
mp3 player: rip programs, best format?
Pbowne, it sounds like you're doing two steps when you only need to do one. EAC, for mp3 at least, with the lame encoder, is the best encoder around. No need to use Audiograbber. 320 kbps VBR mp3 is the alt-preset-insane setting. For what it's wor...
Most expencive stereo ever
Hilarious thread I found about these speakershttp://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?cspkr&974265178&openusid&zzRx8man&4&5
Most expencive stereo ever
Don't forget that those Kharma speakers have something like 96 drivers per speaker. I'm sure you need multiple amps and that means multiple speaker cords/power cords.
Worst remote nomination...
How about remotes that are "too good" (i.e. controls functionality that can't be accessed from the main unit). I had a toshiba DVD player a couple of years ago that had a little joystick button that let you navigate through DVD menus. The main uni...
Anthem AVM 30 vs. Parasound Halo C2
Some audio mag like Sound and Vision or something like that (I'm not really sure which one it was), but it was this month's issue I'm pretty sure, compared the avm 30, halo c1 and a krell. The AVM was the cheapest of the bunch and that was the one...
van morrison's best sounding album?
I just rediscovered "No Guru, No Method, No Teacher" Track #2 "Oh The Warm Feeling" is my favorite song right now. I highly recommend it.
5.25" Speakers/Amp--Oddball Question...
Are you concerned that the quality of your beeps and dings on the game won't be high enough quality? I'd just use computer speakers...
Music Match, WinAmp, Foobar200, Which softawre
Depends on how you encoded your mp3's. If they're 128-160kbps CBR, don't sweat the player, they'll all sound the same. If you used an alt-preset-something or other then you will be able to get your best sound out of foobar. I sometimes run foobar ...
First Generation iPod for Windows Hell Continued
Your problem is because you have synching enabled in itunes. If something is on your ipod, but not in itunes, it will erase it. Disable this feature. I don't know how, but check it out on ipodlounge.com I don't use itunes because it screws up id3 ...
Slew Rate
Sean, I once heard that Sunfire amps have very low slew rates, (part of what gives them a "tubey" sound). I can't find any specs though. I know that you're a fan of these amps (and in fact, I just ordered one). Do you think that your comment above...
