I read earlier on that you have to replace the arm on the 1200G.  Not  true.  The arm on the 1200G is very very good.  If you wanted to pursue a different arm that may be better such as a Triplanar you certainly could but you may find that the arm...

the 774sm is the arm.  775sm is the table.

Update:  Using Achromat with Delos and Clearaudio silver wires AC008 Headshell cable se.  sounds great.

look for an older Mission 774 with Mechanic or Zeta tonearm.  it is one of the best tables I have ever heard at any price.

that new Technics 1200G is a Killer table for the money.  you might be done for good with one of them.

I think if you want a VPI, you have to look for an older Aries with a Graham arm or something like that.  The Aries tables are VPIs best IMO 
vpi tnt still a performer?
I think those old aries tables are the best tables VPI ever made.

One thing I would say is the newer tables are a hell of a lot quieter than the older 1200's thats for sure

I have heard a technics 1200, the 1200g is definitely better the 1200gr is very good and is better to these ears.  I have not heard an older sp-10 but know people who have and they did say they were absolutely amazing tables so you could be right ...
