I am so happy.....
@mahgister While I appreciate the lecture on reality, and the presumptuousness of my ignorance as to the importance of room acoustics, I would counter that it is pretty black and white. You have people that enjoy listening to music, and then you ...
I am so happy.....
Upgraditis is thought of as a sickness because when someone engages in it, they are actively removing themselves from enjoying music and enjoying life. Been there, done that.  I even did it the other day, messing with minute toe-in tweaks of spea...
Tom Jones
Tom Jones.  One amazing vocalist.  His live duets with the likes of Stevie Wonder and Dusty Springfield (available on YouTube - WELL worth watching) and a whole host of recordings and live performances speak to his vocal prowess being all-time eli...
The best way to start adding A=analog to my system
This may be a small thing, but take it or leave it: I’m not sure if Mike Fajen is still the customer service representative at Clearaudio’s American distribution company, Musical Surroundings, but he has been nothing short of tremendous with answ...
Best unplugged live
Nirvana & Alice In Chains More of a departure, presentation-wise, than the other Unplugged shows, thereby providing a more interesting take on their music.  The fact that, in both cases, the shows were so good speaks to the quality of their s...

@bdp24 IMO, one example of a player who is capable of doing all the showy “whootly-whootly” wankery but chooses to instead be only in service of the song is Lindsey Buckingham.

@stuartk Indeed, which is why I said, “the average session player on these tracks could play circles around just about anybody,” and then qualified Brad Paisley as a “recording artist,” as he is as good as the session players.

@stuartk +1 on James Burton. Glen Campbell’s massive overall talent often overshadows the fact that , if he wants to, he can play as well as anybody. Jerry Reed holds his own on a YouTube vid with Chet Atkins, which is a remarkable feat. I abho...

I’m really glad I saw David Lindley and Jesse Ed Davis mentioned here. A couple guys with both the technical proficiency AND the creativity/originality/voice I love listening to these guys.
Cassette decks. How good can it get?
I’ve never had the really high-end cassette decks, but I’m very happy with a JVC KD-S201.  It’s very cool-looking.  I’ve made wonderful sounding tapes sourced from  vinyl, CD, YouTube, etc.  Pre-recoded tapes (the good ones - we know how bad tapes...

@tomcy6 You didn’t read or understand my post. For you to play this brain-dead, bully style of argument-making, badgering me about playing with famous people, or how many “blues festivals” 😂 I’ve played, it’s unseemly. If I had 50 platinum recor...

@tomcy6 McDonald’s has sold 8 kazillion burgers.  That don’t make them the world’s culinary Mecca.  You can use blunt appeals to numbers to make your argument.  That doesn’t make your argument cogent.  By your logic, Milli Vanilli, Justin Bieber a...

@mahgister I agree that leveling a charge such as cultural appropriation is not to be taken lightly, or tossed around willy-nilly.  For instance, is Eminem culturally-appropriative, or just exceptionally good at what he does?  I think these are go...

@mahgister Yikes.  You said it best: “I’m too old to be imprisoned in reeducation camp.” I only call it as I see it.  Considering reprinting his 1976 comments here would be far too grotesque, I would urge you to google them.  The ideas he express...

@mahgister Hey, it’s a free country.   People can side with David Duke, Tucker Carlson, anybody they want.
