Why should audiophile deniers be allowed on an audiophile forum?
On online audio forum. It may be an ultimately trivial thing, but the kind of thinking that becomes accepted in such corners, any corner of the world, the kind of thinking where it’s accepted to simply silence people for bad thoughts, is a bad om...
Why should audiophile deniers be allowed on an audiophile forum?
It’s depressing to watch so many people dig their own grave. If I advocate censorship, and contribute to a precedent being set that silences those who opinions I dislike, that precedent can be used to censor me.  I’m contributing to my own loss o...
How do you arrange the order of your records?
Jazz albums are “albums” so they go with everything else, alphabetically. Thats everything except: Classical music are not “albums,” so they are separate, arranged chronologically by composer (Pachelbel, Vivaldi, Bach at beginning, Steve Reich, ...
Why should audiophile deniers be allowed on an audiophile forum?
I’m pleased to see so many people advocating free speech. I’m so sick and tired of both sides of the aisle trying to destroy this crucial tenet of a free society.  Everybody’s in favor of free speech until that speech runs contrary to their perso...
When You Buy The Whole Album And Only Like One Song.
The internet is awesome.  You don’t have to buy entire albums to get the single song you want.  In my pre-internet days, as a newly-turntabled young man, I loved that I could buy “Alone Again, Naturally” on 45 and not have to own a whole Gilbert O...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
1st UK Rough Trade pressing of For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder? by the Pop Group.   As is so often the case with this period of late-70s, early-80s UK Rough Trade releases, the sound quality is awesome, and my goodness, what a strik...
Can a great system make a mediocre recording sound good?
I have found that as my system improved, excellent recordings/masterings sounded better, and the inadequacies of less-than-stellar recordings/masterings became more pronounced.
The magic of outdoor listening
@clearthinker Are you saying, “don’t complain,” to me?
The magic of outdoor listening
@shooter41 I’m with you, sir. Should someone have a very healthy, say, at least 1 mile radius between their speakers and other dwellings, go nuts, I guess. I’m not keen on people who live in close proximity to others getting any big ideas about ...
Do you spend more time analyzing the sound of your system, worrying it could be better?
To point to what bpoletti just said, I became involved with hi-fi audio to become more engaged and satisfied with this beautiful, precious thing called music.  If I then engage in inordinate fretting and anxiety, that’s on me.  I’ve accepted that ...
“Faithful to the recording”
If bass is “flabby” (apparently the antithesis of the oft-used, “tight” descriptor) is such a phenomenon limited to a singular piece of gear?  It seems the perception of “flabby” bass could be a myriad of factors…? Has anyone ever experienced “fl...
“Faithful to the recording”
It appears many people desire a release that is unfettered and most similar to what the artists/engineers heard via the master tapes played over the studio monitors pre-release.  This seems like a valid desire. How anyone other than the music’s c...
180g … It’s All Hype !
Certainly a warped record out of the packaging, especially with a “180g!!!” sticker on the shrink wrap is unacceptable (barring exposure to dramatic changes in humidity/temperature during travel which can be a thing) If there is a real world benef...
I am so happy.....
@mahgister I appreciate your thoughtfulness. After taking a wonderful (to many, perhaps, humble) audio system from one home to another, with zero changes in gear in between, I was struck by the difference in sound quality.  Wow. What a difference...
I am so happy.....
@mahgister While I appreciate the lecture on reality, and the presumptuousness of my ignorance as to the importance of room acoustics, I would counter that it is pretty black and white. You have people that enjoy listening to music, and then you ...
