Cary SLI-80HS modifications
@pehare Bummer!    I recently moved both my new amp and my old SLI-80 and the new one seems quite a bit heavier but I haven’t weighed them (obviously!).
Cary SLI-80HS modifications
I’m up to 56 listening hours on the new SLI-80HS so still in the burn-in window. It sounds quite nice with the stock tubes.  The power tubes are PSVane KT-88s.  The other tubes I’ll likely replace them first when I get to it.  They look like E-H 6...
Streamer Selection - Thoughts Requested Please!
@norust I had a similar streaming journey with several computers and a Node 2i upgraded with the PD Creative board and a SBooster ECO linear power supply. It sounded quite good.  I’ve not heard your Yggy, I use a Chord Qutest DAC with an Hugo M-Sc...
Cary SLI-80HS modifications
@doyle3433 @pehare  Did you check the bias before your first listen or did you trust that Cary set the bias correctly prior to sending your new amp to you?    I’m taking delivery of mine tomorrow and I’d like to listen for a week before fussing w...
Cary SLI-80HS modifications
@decooney Excellent input, thanks!  I’m definitely with you on that.  It’s the new SLI-80HS or just keep my old one.  The old unit is sounding really nice these days.
Cary SLI-80HS modifications
@somebike   I’ve owned a SLI-80 for almost 10 years so I do appreciate the sound of triode mode.  For many years I almost exclusively listened using triode mode.  But in the last year I’ve really learned to appreciate UL mode.  UL is more extended...
Cary SLI-80HS modifications
@somebike Thanks for your input about the upgrades! That’s very reassuring. The SLI-100 sounds better is interesting.  Could it be your room acoustics or the speakers match it better?  Hmm…  I’ve only considered the SLI-80HS because I can only rai...
Mac Mini As A Streaming Source
@gwhphoto  >> Could everything be operated with an Ipad running Roon, without the need for keyboards? <<  I’m not very familiar with Roon.  I used a M1 Mac Mini as a streamer for a while and controlled it with an iOS app for iPad call...

@pehare @decooney  Thank you for your very thoughtful input! I really appreciate that.  There’s only one tech in my local area who even works on audio equipment. I’ll need to do some searching.  And unfortunately the new SLI-80HS is only available...
Weak Link in Vinyl Playback
@owl9113  I think it’s a gain issue. Don’t run your Schiit preamp in passive mode. You clearly need gain there if your phono preamp level control is at 3 o’clock position.  Try to get it to about 12 o’clock position.  ‘’I’ve used ten cartridges, ...
Loud pop right speaker, no right channel sound
Thank you to all of you for the excellent suggestions for troubleshooting!   It was the right channel tube fuse. I looked back at my listening notes and the same fuse popped 2 years ago. This time it sounded much worse so I feared the worst.
Shunyata Research Alpha V2 XC
@docknow Thanks, that’s what I thought.  The OP referenced an “…ALPHA V2 XC” so I thought I’d check.
Shunyata Research Alpha V2 XC
@guakus I can’t find a v2 version of the Alpha XC on the Shunyata website.  Did you mean the Alpha v2 NR?
Chord M-Scaler burn-in advice/input welcomed
It’s now easy to hear that the new equipment is improving my audio system. The Denali has over 50 hrs listening time, the accompanying Alpha XC cable as over 35 hrs and the M-Scaler nearly 75 hrs. Each of these components is powered up 24x7. I’ve...
Update on good Ethernet switch
@jerrybj Thanks!  You addressed and resolved both of my concerns with actual experience!
