Do cd's store a more exact copy of sound than LP's
Notice how tactfully I am refraining from this discussion?Too many times, too many times.
Large platform for power amp and more...
Check with Stehno. He makes custom wood racks that are nice.
Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long
Doug, I got an email from him today, showing the pics of his mod. Pretty inventive! I think that he could do away with the clamp, and just glue the things onto the side of the housing, and that would pretty it up a bit. I'm very flattered that my ...
what to do before you get the vpi record cleaner?
You can also use the kitchen sink, or Disc Doctor stuff. They will do a good job while you are waiting. The only real big difference is the vacuum system for removing the fluid.
DYI Speakers. How good can they be?
I listen to my own DIY speakers right now on my present system. I have made my own speakers for most of my life, but have purchased a few commercial pairs too. I've been doing it for about 25 years. I've made 2,3,4,and 5 way speakers, different ty...
Best Isolation Devices?
First, I'd like to state up front that I am associated with Starsound Technologies, the maker of resonance control devices that address what isolation devices fail to do. They are the maker of the original Audiopoints, which do not cost anywhere n...
Upgrade Rega P25 to? Basis? VPI? Or?
I agree that $1700 isn't exactly "cheap". A good used table like a Linn, Sota, Well-Tempered, and such can be a very good choice for under $1k, and are worth it. But when looking at new tables in the $1500-$2k price range, the "entry level" Teres ...
Gilmore Audio planars revealed
What appeared in the photos as a possible "center channel" with those long legs and two huge "woofers" looked pretty good to me! I'd definitely go for a 30-day trial period with her!Oh,back to the speakers. What speakers?! Oh yeah, those things on...
Anyone try the new J A Michell Rega Counterweight/
Expressimo Heavyweight also does the trick. However, I do like the looks and features of the new Michell counterweight better. It looks cool, lowers the center of mass, and has what appears to be a micro-adjuster. Probably the best combination of ...
Analog under 2k?
Jphii, I think that is an excellent choice. If you have woodworking ability, it is very affordable and effective to make your own base assembly for a Teres. Many of the original Teres owners did just that, because it was originally available only ...
Replacing stock tonearm cable
Richardmr, I think that you're right about many different things being able to make a sonic difference in the system. It's hard to know what will be best. However, in many cases, what is best for me might not be best for you, due to certain synerg...
Analog under 2k?
For a grand, it is a good deal.It has some good things going for it. Like a DC motor system that seems to be pretty good. It has a moderately thick platter that is not too flimsy. Pretty decent layout of the design. It has some other things that ar...
Replacing stock tonearm cable
I would expect that at the price of a Tri-Planar, it would already have some pretty good wire in it. Give it a chance to show what it can do in stock form, before yanking the wiring out of it.Enjoy your new system.
Took the vinyl plunge - need advice
I like the Goldring 1042 for MM, around $350 retail new. You may be able to use a high output MC like a Dynavector 10x4 or 10x5 for a similar retail price. Both are nice cartridges.
Static Build Up
As Doug recommended, make sure that the ground wire from the bearing housing on your Teres is connected to a good ground. That should do it. If you have an atmospheric condition that is very low in humidity, then maybe additional measures like a Z...
