Graham and Shelter matching - and other arms/carts Try a ZYX R-100 Fuji or a R-1000 Airy. Better compliance match and superb cartridges.
It Also Doubles As An Apple Peeler. Buscis2, as I'm sure you are well aware, there are always compromises in designs. Also, "excessive" effective mass" can be quite relative, depending upon the needs of the cartridge being used.If you'd like my analysis of the DV507 in a nutshell, I'...
It Also Doubles As An Apple Peeler. I agree with Albert's assessment. An overly complex way to try to solve a fairly simple problem. While they did accomplish their goal of separate horizontal and vertical effective mass components, they did so many other things that they mucked up ...
What SET amp can drive the Von Schweikert VR1-89dB Depending upon your SPL needs, you could possibly get by with a 300B SET with about 8 watts. This would be marginal in my opinion. Probably most people would be happier with a little more power, like an 845 SET with about 20 watts. If you like the...
Current Trends in multi thousand dollar speakers I'm responding here as a private person, and not relating any kind of company philosophy of the company that I work for. This is my own opinion.I think that this type of designing is directly related to marketing and the relative desires of the cu...
How Can I figure out my Effective Tone Arm Mass?? The Systemdek was a pretty good table for the money, but they have been out of business for a long time. The newer Audio Note turntables seem to be a clone of the old Systemdek, and I suppose it is possible that even some parts may be interchangea...
Next best thing to a Counterpoint SA-5000 preamp Well, the obvious response would be an SA-3000, but I had the same decision to make a while back, and purchased a nice used MFA Magus with some upgrades. This turned out to be a fine all-tube preamp with an excellent phono stage. I actually prefer...
Origin DC Motor in LP12: Marketing or reality? I cannot respond from experience with the OL DC motor system on an LP12. However, I have used the OL DC motor system on an OL turntable, and I have a Teres turntable with a DC motor system, AND I owned a Linn LP12 Valhalla for about 11 years. In my...
Top phono cartrige to match jfrech's system ... Personally, I feel the Shelter 501(0.4mv) is in every way as good as a Helikon, but has some differences in sonic character, and sounds more like the Koetsu sound than the Lyra sound. I feel the Shelter 901(0.5mv) is definitely ahead of the Heliko...
How Can I figure out my Effective Tone Arm Mass?? The Profile arm is an OEM model made by Sumiko in the 1980s, for the lower cost audiophile market. It is a medium mass tonearm, and the bearings are designed for mid-compliance type cartridges. Therefore it would be better matched to the Grado, be...
how many of you are .............................. I have recently joined Starsound Technologies, manufacturer of Sistrum, Audiopoints, Sonoran Cables, Harmonic Precision Amps and Speakers.I have also worked in retail high-end shops in the past.
Can I use a Denon DL103 with FR64 tonearm? Is it a Excellent match. The FR-64 has an effective mass of 23g, which makes it a heavy arm that is well suited to the Denon 103 cartridge.
How to reduce the friction in the bearing I agree with most of the above. First call Oracle to see what they recommend, and follow what they say, if they say anything. If they say you are on your own, then remove the platter and spindle, and clean spindle and bearing thoroughly, as sugges...
which older /used preamp for phono stage ??? I use an early 90s vintage MFA Magus with some mods, which has about 46db gain in the phono stage. It has 20db gain in the linestage. It has an excellent phono stage that is highly regarded for its price range(under $1500) new. All tube, except th...
AR XB Hum Sounds like it could very likely be some kind of ground issue. I'd check all grounds and connections, and it wouldn't hurt to ground it like you mentioned. Also, keep all signal lines well away from any power cables or power supply transformers. |
