Phono Preamp Help - 47K Ohms - 100 Ohms .. Huh?
Consttraveler, if you can find a used Cotter Mk2, that would be your best bet, but they are sometimes too expensive due to demand. Alternatives are a Peerless, or Jensen, or more expensive ones like Audio Note, Shelter, or ET SU-1. Or a head amp l...

Tom, just for reference, did you listen to Lowthers that were 1 year old or more? There have been major changes to the Lowther drivers in this past year. The model names remained the same. They have rolled the suspension surround inwards for smoot...

An Audio Note IQ-2 is a OEM version of the Goldring 1042, and can usually be found for less than the Goldring. If you could find a inexpensive step-up transformer for around $100 or less, you could get a Denon DL103R low-output MC cartridge, and r...
Phono Preamp Help - 47K Ohms - 100 Ohms .. Huh?
Mamba, I don't think you are entirely correct about the step up transformer thing. We don't like semiconductors in our signal paths. About the lack of knowledge part, maybe you should discuss this with Kondo, who specifies only step up transformer...

Frank, don't worry, it'll be fine on an SME V.

How about a set of Lowther driver Lammhorns? About 100db efficient, and works great with 300B. No front loaded horn, only back loaded for bass augmentation. Great sound. No crossover. About $5k new.
Amp/Preamp Synergy for 6K Used
I'd go with a Supratek Syrah preamp and a Berning ZH270 amp. That gives you a super phono stage which can handle just about any low output MC cartridge, from .2mv and up, and beautiful 6SN7 based line stage. Couple that with the speed and transpar...

RB-300:help ;I think I'm wacked
Okay, Twylie, I've been down this road, and helped alot of others down it too.First, your RB900 is a very good arm, I wouldn't knock it.Second, the modded RB250 will outperform it at half the price.Third, the OL Silver tonearm will knock them both...
Rhythm and harmony in music
Rhythm and harmony are two entirely different things. Rhythm is the "accent of the beat" so to speak, and is applied to the timing structure of the song, ie., shuffle, swing, march, waltz, etc. These give various rhythmic "flavors" to the style of...

Cp, no the cu is compliance units, and has nothing to do with your internal impedance. Compliance can also be expressed as (c)x10^-6 cm/dyn. The Goldring spec was given in the other metric version (c)um/mN. This is micro-meter/milliNewton. It is a...
Going SACD or analog?
Analog.
Need help - Set up Helikon using test LP
When you can't adjust the anti-skate with a particular arm, then you shouldn't be surprised when it has anti-skating problems. You might as well just get a different arm right away, because now you're going to have the same psychological reaction ...

What Ohlala said. Spikes plus discs.
Attention to detail
If you want detail, you will get a ton more of it with Lowthers, than with anything else mentioned here. You may have to make your own enclosure to keep under $1k, but where would you rather have your money, in YOUR drivers, or in someone elses pr...
