How much fluid do you use I don't know about the drops of fluid, but I can identify exactly with your move back to vinyl. I sold my several thousand LP collection 10 years ago(ouch), and said that I would not get back into vinyl, just like you did. I stayed out of audio fo...
Good turntable equipped for about 700 dollars? The Linn is a very musical table, and that is the best way to describe it. There isn't any one particular "audiophile" category that jumps out, with the exception of PRaT. It excels at PRaT. The resolution is very good, but not great. There is a s...
What output is higher...? Marakanetz, I think a Dynavector 10x4 Mk 2 would do fine on that arm. The Dynavector is not too heavy, has a compliance of 15cu and an output of 2.5mv. It should match up very well with that unipivot.
Good turntable equipped for about 700 dollars? Peter, in your price range you want to look for the LP12 with Valhalla. You can tell this by looking at the Power on/off switch at the front left of the TT. The older non-Valhalla models had a large red square pushbutton. The Valhalla changed that...
VPI JMW 10.5 damping oil question If the paddle doesn't touch the silicone fluid, then how in the world would the damping work? Come on guys, think about it.
Phono Section Break-In CD ?? This may be considered old-fashioned, but how about just playing records through it? I've always done that, and it has worked just fine for me. Personally, I like to hear the gear burn-in.
Good turntable equipped for about 700 dollars? I agree with what SWKlein says above. A Linn LP12/Valhalla with a Basik Plus arm is in your price range and the best sounding set up for that amount of money. It will bury a Rega, MMT-7, or VPI Jr. The Audio Note mentioned above is a good table, a...
Cocktail of choice when listening to fav music? T-bone, we have never had one bad bottle since we started the club. Of course, we always check the ullage and the cork. So we've been fortunate. The best buys for any wine, we have found to be on Winebid.com It is a wine auction site, and may good ...
Separates vs. Integrated I think that the power amp with integrated passive volume controls, ala Berning and Tenor, is starting to take hold. For those who don't need input switching, this is a real money saver. However, personally I would rather go the other way than thi...
Cocktail of choice when listening to fav music? Also, the update on the 61 La Conseillante was terrific. Even better than I had expected. Really held up well, and no signs of going over the hill. I'd say it has a good 15 years left. Still looking for the 61 Ch. Latour a Pomerol that Parker says...
Cocktail of choice when listening to fav music? T-bone, I have found that Grant Burge makes a very nice Shiraz. The Barossa Valley is the place where you want to get your Shiraz from. The standard Grant Burge is only about $21/bottle and is quite good. Some of his special vintages like the Mesh...
Class A and B differences? Personally, I think that 10%-15% is a pretty good increase in performance, when you are getting up into the higher levels. Remember, you get into that "diminishing returns" area at some point, where you have to pay alot more for each little increa...
I'd like to learn about volume controls I'll try to help you, with what I know about them. All volume controls cause a loss of some kind, in the signal path. One of the goals is to try to get the least signal loss, and still retain control of the volume. Higher quality Potentiometers, wh...
MM or MC cartridge..... Ohlala, you make a good point. I was in a bad mood. Here it is.Allright, I guess it's technical time. There are several types of cartridges, with MM(moving magnet), MC(moving coil) leading the pack. Some others are MI(moving iron, or variable relu...
Nottingham Space Deck Table...... I think the Teres is better, but the Nottingham is a very good table, especially at the price range. If the Teres wasn't around, I'd be tempted to look at a Nottingham myself. |
