About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone
Pat, it's alot of fun getting to break-in and tune-up a whole new system, isn't it?Hey, that Steve is a great guy to get another Syrah for you, like he did. Paul and Doug did a great service with their spearheading the system donation efforts. All...

Lowthers may be an acquired taste for some, and an immediate love/hate for others. I've seen it go various ways.I totally agree with your assessment of Lowther systems at shows, and even though I'm a Lowther owner, I've never heard a really good s...

CS, yes I disagree. Beethoven symphonies, as well a Wagner, etc, are played daily on my LOWTHERS(with no subwoofers), from a RECORD PLAYER.I wouldn't play Megadeth, so I don't know about that. How about Blue Oyster Cult? They play that quite well....
Speakers for low power amps?
Any of the 8" Lowther models or 8" Fostex models will work in that enclosure. You can also use smaller diameter drivers, by making a smaller hole for the driver.I used Lowther EX3 drivers in mine.

El, yes Martin King has done alot of work on this kind of design. His computer aided work, and other testing has yielded some interesting stuff. The truncated top is touted to reduce certain "problematic" effects because he seems to have determined...
Spikes versus wall coupling
Ok, I'm an employee of Starsound Technologies, and I asked the question about the sand.Actually, I felt that I was being remarkably silent, considering all that was being stated here.Truthfully, the reason why I was(and still am) at a loss for wor...
Speakers for low power amps?
Here are the plans from the Lowther America website, which were donated by KK Yeo. KK made the cabinets to my specifications, and with numerous conversations with my by telephone and email. He shows the "TWL mod", and how to make it on that PDF fi...
Speakers for low power amps?
Sean, actually from all the reading that I've done on the subject of the Voigt Pipe(TQWP), the general consensus is that it is a "mix" of transmission line, rear loaded horn, and bass-reflex designs, that "more or less" blend together. The taper of...
Spikes versus wall coupling
So this must be why when someone runs next to me on the beach, I can feel his pounding footsteps in the sand under me.

El, TQWP is "Tapered Quarter Wave Pipe", such as a Voigt Pipe cabinet, like the Cain & Cain Abbey.
Speakers for low power amps?
I'd recommend speakers with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms or above, and without any wild swings into the low impedances. For amps of 8 watts or more(like 300B), I recommend you select speakers with 93db/watt or higher sensitivity. For amps of 3.5w -...
Why do intelligent people deny audio differences?
El, bad analogy. Cable believers don't think that they make it happen. It's the cable disbelievers who think that the believers make it happen(via self delusion).Essentially, for the first time on this thread, I agree with Rsbeck. People are going ...
MG-1 Air Bearing Tonearm? Anyone experience it?
Only one way to find out, and that's try it.Very good point that the pump costs extra.Sean is correct about my arm experiences. I've avoided linear trackers because of the air pump issues. Although I hear them on other people's systems, I don't us...
Why do intelligent people deny audio differences?
I'm willing to be a participant. But really, most "cable believers" think that testing to prove something that is easily seen to be self-evident to be a waste of time.We don't need a test to prove that the sun comes up in the morning. Only the disb...
Sleeper preamps: $500 new/used
NAC 42, due to the DIN connectors, and required external power supply(SNAPS or Hi-Cap), the old Naim preamps are probably more difficult to use with other brands of amps. They don't have their own internal power supply, so you must have the outboa...
