Best tonearm position for VTA?
It depends entirely on the brand and model of the cartridge.Any of the 3 answers could be right, depending upon which cartridge you are using. Or anything "in between" could be right, too.Generally, you are trying to get the correct SRA(stylus rak...
Tweaks That Don't Work
I didn't try the foil on a CD, because I only use LP records.Maybe that was the problem.I did cut the recommended sizes and shape, and put them on each item in my system.I left them there for a year. After removing, no difference noticable.Oh well.
Who has made their own LP cleaning solution?
Paul's AIVS solution is what I use, and it is the best that I've found.Paul is also a very nice and gracious person, and a pleasure to deal with.
Tweaks That Don't Work
One thing I tried that seemed to have no effect whatsoever, was the "Magic Foil" by Peter Belt Systems. They offered a free trial, and even though I was severely skeptical, I tried it out.The claim was that it "calmed the inherent stresses that res...
Subwoofer Isolation, what do you think...
Newbee, I agree that there are some things which cannot be fully prevented from happening in most stereo listening environments, short of placing the equipment out of the listening environment, and of course at least the speakers must be in the li...
Subwoofer Isolation, what do you think...
Barry, are you suggesting that tons of solid concrete floor(which is directly coupled to the Earth's surface) does not have enough mass to dissipate energy from a subwoofer? And if you think it does not, then how much amplitude is that several ton ...
Which turntable should I keep?
For the paltry money you have in these turntables, keep them both. They are both good tables, but the Thorens may prove the better of the two. But the Denon is one of the better direct drive tables from that era, and is a good performer in its own ...
Cartridge for old Systemdek with profile arm?
Goldring 1042 would be a very good choice.
Subwoofer Isolation, what do you think...
I agree with Newbee about not isolating under your sub. Also agree about turntable location. If you would prefer upscale feet for your sub, then there are a number of choices. They can be of benefit in reducing unwanted vibrational effects in the su...
Subwoofer "Thumping"
Yes, it is likely subsonic noise that can be filtered using a subsonic filter.
Why not more on 845 SETs?
Octuple, I went a step further and had custom made gear to run on 12vdc power, with separate batteries for each piece. It's amazing to hear what flat DC battery power can do.Simplify and enjoy.
Speaker design myths revealed
That should work. Try to make it so that it won't have buzzing vibrations where it contacts the ring behind the driver. That is a point which may vibrate, if not affixed in some way.It sounds like a very cool idea, which offers alot of options, an...
Speaker design myths revealed
Fiddler, that's cool.If you keep the basic quarter-wave formula in mind, then you'll have something to lean on when deciding on baffle-related issues.Slightly off-center driver will be a bit smoother, as would a slightly curved panel.I wouldn't re...
Speaker design myths revealed
Fiddler, basically the baffle size requirement is directly related to the bass "wraparound" cancellation that is inherent in open baffle speakers. If you use subwoofers with these systems, then the baffles can be much smaller, depending upon how h...
Hadcock arms
Hi Joe,Also, the 228 is lighter in effective mass.Generally, Hadcocks are paired with Grado, Music Maker, or other higher compliance MC cartridges, or alot of MM cartridges.Don't even think about a DL103R on a Hadcock. It's a classic unstabilized ...
