Looking for an Amp Replacement
Without any hesitation look for a LSA Voyager GaN 350. Stock units can be found used under $2K, BUT, there is/was one FS in Melbourne FL that was modified by Ric Schultz at a great price.  
CD Transport with XLR Out
I second the Project DS 2T as a possible upgrade from my Audiolab 6000CDT, but am very happy with the 6000, which responds well to iso-devices, cables and PCs  
Used PS Audio BHK 300 monoblock or (2) new benchmark ahb2 bridged?
Why not a GaN amp? You can find stock LSA GN 350s for under $2K, then send to Ric Schultz (Tweak Audio) for very reasonably priced upgrades, or there is/was a moded one in Melbourne FL for sale

OP   I think you mean AES/EBU out, which looks the same as XLR (analog), but is a digital cable I/O to connect between transport out and dac in hth  
Revisiting Chinese Knockoff Cables
it's beyond silly to suggest that all Chinese cables are average. There are plenty of products from other countries around the world that are average at best. However, if one is expecting a sub $100 cable to be great, that is a crap shoot. My pers...

Ive owned quite a lot of kit over the decades. I really loved the Khozmo dual mono preamp. Sadly, I had to sell it to fund another purchase
