Need help with preamp choice...
I highly recommend PS Audio GCP/GCPS. Gain Cells as volume controls are very innovative, resolving known issues with conventional volume controls. It is extremely flexible, offering SE and XLR I/Os. It also has polarity control (although it is mis...
Best speakers under $2000 to match with a SET amp?
THe problem with most speakers is they need to be well out into the room (think 1/3) to breath. You might look at maggies small wall mounts. I think you can buy them direct with a one years trade up I THINK
Floor standers or Monitors?
I have tried numerous versions of both. I much prefer a solid floor-stander with a narrow width, unless you can find a monitor that bolts to the base. I currently own Usher 6311 (see auction) and 6371s. I also have Maggie 3.5Rs which I am now usin...
Best player for Poorly Recorded redbook CDs?
I have been around the cutting edge of really good CD playback for some time. My last CD player was the vaunted Lector CD-7T, which I replaced with a Bluenote Stibbert. It does a really good job of playing poorly recorded discs (like Annie Lennox ...
Best CD player money can buy ? MBL, Nagra, Naim?

What to buy
Run don't walk to Usher. They're somewhere in Texas. Tell'em Robert Hart sent you.
intergrated for rock and dance and blues
Best way to hear rock is with a muscle solid state amp like the BVaudio A300S. I am a dealer and can get you a demo unit for under $1500.
What Pre amp to use
Look for a used BVaudio P1, an excellent choice. Also you made no mention of power conditioning- very important!
Balanced power line conditioners use with CJ
We have used both with a wide variety of ss and tube amps, just not the ones you mentioned. We prefer to sell the BPT.
Please help with choosing speakers
I have a large room and 6 ft tall speakers in a sub/sat set up. The sound is awesome, but I don't like the way the towers cut up my living space. As good as 3.6s are, they suffer from the same issue that all "full range" speakers suffer, which is ...
To DAC or not to DAC
Perhaps yes, perhaps no. You see when you separate transport and dac you introduce "jitter". You also introduce a number of other issues, like; power cords, additional shelving, proper isolation, cabling. Any one of these can take an otherwise gre...
Pioneer PD65 needs a DAC
I am using a Musical Concepts Epoch V moded PD65. If the soundstage was deeper, I would not even consider a DAC. The Stello 220DAC (upsamples to 192?) just got an excellent review in Soundstage emag. MSRP is a mere $1195. I am waiting for the next...
Which amp for B&W 703s
I spent some time evaluating the 703s, and left unconvinced. Check out the reviews for the Usher new 6 series. Great review at AV Monthly
Xindak SCD-2 Mods
I may be able to help with getting SCD-2s moded. COntact me next month, the guy is on a long vacation.
Xindac SACD 2 recomend a DAC
I have owned the SCD-2 for over a year. I found the stock SACD playback to be excellent in my system, which is over $30K, including Nearfield 924 loudspeakers, which are highly revealing. About 6 months ago I had it moded. This improved both SACD ...
