Best Used Speaker Under $4,000 w/ Respectable Lows
"I tend to treasure transparency, neutrality, high end extension, speed, DYNAMICS, and tight driver control / integration in my speakers and leave bloom/coloring/musicality to the amp. I also prefer speakers that play very well at low volumes with...
TOTEM Sttaf removing mass loading
Rather than dumping it out risking possible damage to the cabinet why not use a shop vac which would certainly be cleaner more efficient in removing all the litter and minimize the mess and dust caused by dumping.
Review: Merlin Music Systems VSM-MXe Speaker
I have been living with the Merlin VSM-M since 2001 and have been quite happy. I would be interested in hearing your comparison with the Linkwitz Orion which I have been eyeing but haven't heard.
Some irrefutable truths about rock and roll
1) Robert Johnson invented rock and roll, and is the rightful King of it. Elvis Presley's title should be amended to "Poster Boy of Early Rock and Roll."Tongue in cheek I'm sure. Boogie Woogie is the real progenitor to rock and roll, not Robert Jo...
New to Classical Music - Album to try first??
LOL, Classical music? Actually I think the best advice is by those who suggest you look in your local library or listen to a local radio station that plays classical music, it is too varied. There are different periods of Western Classical music. ...
Who is your favorite jazz pianist
My favorites of all time include Earl Hines, Errol Gardner, Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans. Art Tatum was probably the Franz Lizst of all jazz pianists, too bad there aren't more and better recordings of him as he is just dazzling and probably the ...
Benchmark DAC
I remember several years back there was an inexpensive DAC that was THE rave for its price point. I ordered one with great anticipation that it was a panacea for everything wrong with digital. After a total of 3 days, with a 30 day money back guar...
Jazz piano faceoff - please vote
I agree with Jonsher certainly about touch. Beyond that, Charlap has a harmonic development along with a technical virtuosity and fluidity that is considerably beyond Nimmer IMHO. Some of this can be attributed to different styles which is quite e...
Best solid state amp under 1k
I would clarify that the Class A/B Thresholds, the S-200, S-300 and S-500 are decent but not in the same league as the all Class A designs, the SA series. I owned an S-200 many years ago but found it a big compromise to say the SA-1 monos which sh...
Best Diana Krall album...........is???
"Good for you! I have several albums and only ever played them once. I find it very puzzling why she is so popular. My loss I guess - try as I might I simply don't get it - and I normally like ALL genres even the prototypical formulaic throw back ...
Verity Parsifal or Magico V3 or Wilson Benesch ACT
Well Dhaan, I agree that goosebumps can be gotten on specific recordings with specific gear, yes this is indeed true. The first time I remember hearing it was with a Single ended triode driving hi efficiency Swan speakers many years ago and was du...
Verity Parsifal or Magico V3 or Wilson Benesch ACT
Interesting discussion. It seems Stereophile's John Atkinson had issues with a Verity design a few years back. Can't recall the model or year but remember the measurements being the least favorable part of the review. In my brief experience with t...
Your ONE all time favorite love song?
Schipo I also love the Bunny Berigan original of "I can't get started with you". Years ago at MGM Studio in Orlando I went on the Tower of Terror ride and this is the song they play in the rather 30's style hotel lobby (waiting area) of the ride. ...
Best short-lived band?
Buffalo Springfield maybe? The spring board for CSN&Y and Poco. Maybe not the best short lived band but they were certainly a very influential band from the folk/rock fusion genre of the mid 60's.
Upgrading from Kharma 3.2 to Verity Parsifal
I have only heard the Verity Parsifals once at a show in Montreal a few years ago and it hasn't been the same since. There were also rooms with the Sarastro and the Ovation but the room I am referring to was the Parsifals PRIOR to the Ovation. I l...
