Copy-protected CDs - philosophical discussion I will probably draw much wrath with this response, but here goes: I understand what the major labels are trying to do, is to protect their financial interest and, yeah, even throw the artists a penny or two. My older brother, 50, was very proud t...
How much money do you want to waste? Yup, Craig and others, I sold my cables and replaced them with tulip bulbs. I find the sound more colorful with better bloom, but, in the winter, much more recessed. Thanks for playing the straight man... ;-)Todd
Studio gear vs. Hi-Fi gear Is Hi-Fi a ripoff? On the other hand, has anyone read about what Bob Ludwig has at Gateway Mastering? A pair of EgglestonWorks Ivy speakers at $96K, Cello amps, etc. Makes me feel like I'm slumming with my (in comparison) jukebox.http://www.gatewaymastering.com/ und...
Dedicated circuits...am I missing something? I, too, am an apartment dweller with a fairly serious stereo (hey, some things come first!) and found that replacing the outlets made a good difference. I used Hubbell hospital grade long before all the specialist outlets came out. Replace the cir...
Did anyone manage to ``repare'' a buzz, ever? On the off-handed chance this may help....a few years ago I found the source of a buzz in my system thru luck. The system was completely ground-floated except for the tube preamp and, at higher volumes with no source signal, it was very clear - an...
What's phase 0 degree - 180 degree? Actually, DT, you have found the solution to all your questions just by experimenting. But you need the technical reasoning behind it all, which I will try to help with.1. Phase is whether the speaker cone is moving out with a signal that is also ...
imaging and speaker placement with tv in center I agree with Moonshyn, with a pair of Quad 63's and a 28" TV between, one can clearly hear the difference by covering up that big piece of glass with a blanket. My center image is much more "dense" and have moved the speakers according due to too ...
Stereophile "coverage" Pretty slim issue! What I did a double take on was the complaint on the frequency response graph on the Audio Physic Avanti speaker further in the mag. (I think it was a sharp dip somewhere between 2-4K.) Looking back at the Krell response graph, i...
Where should the Whale Elite rest? Rev Joe & Mwalsdor,Sorry, but can't resist.....You must have BIG listening rooms compared to mine to fit in all those mammals. Do they cause reflection problems with that shiny skin? Hose 'em down every few hours to keep them living? Please don...
Horrific Confession and Question Just as a side note, I was shopping at Musicland in a mall before Christmas a few years ago, looking for new material. Background music playing, crowds making noise, cash registers going, you know, the works. I was about half way to the back when ...
Shelf Material Sorry about this late posting, just saw it tonight. Looks like you're almost done experimenting so I'll throw something new into the fire and see what burns! An earlier posting mentioned Maple butcher block and I thought I had seen something in an...
The fallacy of ac treatment One comment from a manufacturer of power cords that makes sense to me is that the equipment is not at "the end of the line" but should be looked at from, say, the amp's point of view. The power cord is the very first thing it sees and could be tho...
Anyone ever use Spectral without MIT? Geez Phill, I have neither Thiels or Spectral, so stick a pacifier in it unless you can directly answer Tbonephile's question. Or would be too ADULT for you?
PS Audio Multiwave In my own system with Quad 63s (AC powered), it was a bigger jump than installing the original PP300. Quieter, more depth, and more 'harmonic integrity'- fuller sounding, but quicker on attacks and decays. Extremely happy with it! Your own mileage... |
