Concrete tubes: hemholtz resonators? tubes?
A few years ago, there was an article about this at Headroom (the headphone people). Unfortunately, my company's firewall thinks the link to Room Tubes is about sex and won't let me open it. Maybe you will have better luck: http://web.archive.org/...
$9.99 for a new CD release, yes it has happened
Lugnut, in talking to a Sam Goody store manager this weekend (we've been friends for years), she confirms what you have said, plus the contract for Universal also demands free storefront advertising. Innocent and unaware me didn't know that all th...
Favorite Movie Soundtrack
Oops, forgot Peter Gabriel's "Passion", the soundtrack to "The Last Temptation of Christ". It doesn't sound as if it's aged at all in the past 14 years.
Wanna know how noisy your AC is ?
THE LINE SNIFFER WORKS!I would encourage everyone to try it. I did a sweep of my apartment about 3 years ago when I installed some AP Quietlines. Surprisingly, even areas/outlets not used sometimes had some noise, so I recommend checking EVERYWHER...
Favorite Movie Soundtrack
"Glory" - a recording that can shake your house and move you, all at the same time. Funny, it's been out for 15 years and still some movie trailers use it for dramatic scenes.
Hovland & Merlin a match?
I've seen & heard them demonstrated at electronic shows with Joule Electra - tube OTL gear and sounded great...for a hotel room.
To couple or decouple? That is the question.
I would guess that most buildings are pretty well coupled to earth, otherwise they'd fall down. Yet, you have feel an earthquake or even a nearby moving train through them. This would definitely add 'information' to the component you are trying to...

Do we break in our componets or do our componets ?
I agree with most posters above and think it's all the above, changes in AC coming thru, the system getting all charged up (my Quads do it) and you getting accustomed to the sound in your room again. What a relief it's sounding better too, eh? Ple...
Dynamat
I have used it (or similar products) inside the chassis and covers of electronic boxes so they no longer sound like telephones - ring, ring! Especially good for the really flimsy metal and plastic - cheap (oops, inexpensive) CD & DVD players, ...
How to Liven up a room
Probably suspended ceiling too, with the fiberboard type panels? Those are sound suckers...Can you try listening to your speakers near-field, like 5-6' away from your listening chair, also away from the side walls?Or how about forgetting to liven ...
Any gillian welch fans?
I started with "Hell..." and have all the rest. When I saw a 14 minute song "I Dream A Highway" on Revelator, the reaction was no way. But it hangs together and is quite...harrowing.Loaned "Revival" to my parents (age 77 & 72) about 5 years ag...
Bookshelf speakers on actual bookshelves?
I used some poster-type clay to keep them away from the metal shelf and keep them positioned correctly. You might also try damping the back wall of the bookcase with some towels or sponges temporarily to see if you have a reflection problem with y...
Amp heat sinks are ringing
I wonder if one of Herbie's products (Hal-o) could be cut to work for you. They are at least tube-heat proof. I've never used them to hear how effective they are, but others seem to really like them.Yours are not the only amps with this problem; a...
Which speaker is the master of IMAGING ????
A few years ago, I heard the MBL 101s (the watermelon-shaped speakers) with a single sub driven with the-then-top of the line VAC CPA pre and a model of the Vintage amps. On an orchestral recording, musicians each had their own little 3D spot wher...
