Avantgarde Duos: Omega or Mezzo? The smaller room is too small for any of the Avantgardes - you need to sit a minimum of 10' from the tweeters for proper integration, and the tweeters in that case would be 12' apart if proper ratio is used - meaning that the small dimension of th...
Does this speaker exist? For Rrog above, I had the SCIII many years ago at home, and used to sell Dunlavy back in the day - the 'III is missing the bass foundation that the 'IV has in spades...actually, except for being too tall, the 'III meets the OP's criteria right dow...
fair price for Avant Garde Duo 2.2 IIRC the ".2" designation meant the lacquered woofer cabinets, which look much nicer than the Nextel ones.I'd ask about $9K if you have the lacquered woofer cabinets, or $8,500 if you have the Nextel woofer cabinets.Sorry you have to sell - I'd co...
Boulder has full page ad in Du-pont registry MANY car guys are also into high-end audio; boys and their toys, to be sure. There's a common appreciation for superb performance and industrial design at work here. I'm a longtime member of both of these camps.Though I'm not a SS/Boulder guy...
Best redbook cd-only player ? AMR CD-77.1 is a must-hear at half your budget max. And you get a USB DAC to boot. Superb sound, bombproof build.
Avantgarde Uno 2.0, 2.1 Try it both ways, with a test CD track at the adjustable crossover frequency (mine's set a bit over 140Hz on Duo Omegas) - whichever has higher output is the way to go.
Prima Luna Dialogue 3 or Cary SLP 98L? Haven't heard the PrimaLuna, but must chime in on the Cary - especially the F1 version (direct-coupled with PIO caps) - superb for the coin.
Cartridge for my system? Your wisdom is needed Second the Clearaudio Maestro Wood. A killer at its price.
Best High Efficiency Speakers for full bass tone Anything from Avantgarde - EQ'd, active subs provide full-range extension and >100dB sensitivity (up to 109dB, depending on model) and will fill a big room with modest tube power. Some very reasonably priced pairs of Unos and Duos on the 'Gon now.
Your best ''outstanding'' products in last 5 yrs? 1) the Omega upgrade (18 ohm Alnico magnet midrange and tweeter drivers, and new constantly charged crossover for the tweeter) for my series 3 Avantgarde Duos raised sensitivity from 103dB to 107dB and gave even more unforced detail and musical so...
$5000.00 To Spend Looking for Tube Pre-Amp Used Cary SLP-05 should definitely be on your $5K short list.
Cables for low power amps and Horns? My SET/horn rig sings with the Crystal Cables - and as a bonus, they're thin, well-shielded and easy to place unobtrusively.
So......what do you use under your speakers? I replaced the stock screw-in feet on my speakers with the Grand Prix Audio Apex footers. They're a blend of carbon fiber and some sort of polymer/sorbothane, as I recall. Pricey but very effective, and allow for leveling.
I heard BAT was sold Interesting that Music Direct is pursuing vertical integration at this juncture in the audio biz.I had a VK-D5SE CDP for many years, and it was a fine piece. The gents at BAT are good people and VK has always been a valued contributor here and els...
Avantgarde Trios too loud with my amps What Whart said - the Lamm SETs are a match made in heaven with Avantgardes. OP also might consider a preamp (like Cary SLP-05) with L&R gain controls, plus a master volume control. The speakers are worth the effort! |
