Looking for vintage Quad ESL's - or my wife thinks a "shrink" becase she says I'm crazy!
While I definitely stand up for the Quad ESL57, in no way do I think the speaker remains without flaw.  Despite the pride and territoriality folks exhibit in these forums, ALL audio components have weaknesses, and ALL are flawed.  No product works...
Publish the age of your component when selling (let's discuss)
@pdn, thank you. You certainly bring up several valid points. The transports / laser assemblies represent a true achilles heel to CD players. It’s just a matter of time when they will fail. While the parts and ability to fix some machines exists, f...
Von Schweikert vr-4 vs Stratus GoldI
@hiend2 Coincidentally, I used to sell PSB loudspeakers. I won’t go into too much detail or provide any background unless you feel interested. I’ve also had a lot of interaction with the Von Schweikert VR4.PSB built a first class loudspeaker in th...
The Jadis JA200Mk2 review---or slam!
@kyomi_audio you make some excellent points, and I agree with you.  The JA 200 MK2 should have no issue whatsoever driving the Wilson Alexias. The Alexia may prove a bit more demanding than the WATT/Puppy and its successor, Sasha.  But I've heard s...

@willemj "The ELS 57 was a brilliant speaker for its time, but the 2805 is really better. It has a more extended bass response, a wider less directional pattern, and most of all a far more natural spatial representation and a cleaner sound."You...
20 Year Old Amplifiers compared to 2017
@fisher_400, "I have not heard new Class D, but understand the new Class D amps can compete for the most part with tube amplifiers."@fisher_400, "The newer Class D amps are superior to most vintage amps & receivers."To avoid 1) contradicting y...

@markcooperstein, "When I was 15 (I’m now 66) my friends dad had stacked Quad ESL-57’s and I swear I’ve NEVER heard anything as good since then!"I very much agree with you.  I doubt you will hear anything as good going forward, either, including t...
***SET***What Is Your Experience With Different Flavors***
@jond you can keep design, execution, output transformers, power supplies, etc. the same, and simply run different tubes - 45, 2A3, and 300B, for example, to hear the differences in tube types.  Yes, they may use different filament voltages, but u...
Integrateds: Why do they all SUCK?
Well, apart from the bumpy road he's left behind, @madavid0 does make a point.  Many integrateds often serve as the entry level products in a company's amplification lineup. You can find some truly good sounding solid state offerings from the UK th...
Dated but still A rated DACs
You don't often see them come up, and when they do they're not as cheap as you would expect given their age.  But the Timbre DAC featured a sound that endeared itself to some who preferred analog to digital in a big way
Slovakia JJ ECC 802 and 803 tubes.
As you can see, these JJ variants feature long plates.  That's the rationale behind JJ providing different designations, which they have done with some of their other products.  At the time they wanted folks to take notice of these new tubes, and ...
Disappointed w/ Klipsch Heresy III. Now what?
@oddiofyl , "KT66 was good, KT88 was better but the Klipsch with EL34 had the best tone"You could say that about many a system...By the way, fellow Quicksilver owner here, their original (and some say best sounding) 8417 amplifier, converted to E...
Disappointed w/ Klipsch Heresy III. Now what?
@mapman "Have heard Zu Essence I believe several times at shows and never quite floated my boat so far. Might try again."I doubt a company does worse at showing their speakers off than Zu.  At shows, they often come off as horrific, and leave so m...
The Jadis JA200Mk2 review---or slam!
@howsthefidelity, you’re right about the Mullards. Please give the Shuguang (or Psvane) triple mica 12AX7B aka Silver Dragon a go. At $10, you will absolutely not believe their performance. They easily best the Mullards, and compete with the best ...
