How important is bass to you?
Bdp24, I think you'd have to have similar amps, speakers and room to reproduce a live rock band sound. But personally that's not the standard I would use. Live band soundmen tend to push the bass and drums too loud, leaving too little space for th...
Disappointing audition after great review
It's so subjective--I have a modest but well-researched system that really hits the spot for me. But most non-audiophiles who hear it seem to be not so impressed. And some days it doesn't even grab me in a strong way. So there's a lot to consider ...
How important is bass to you?
"All parts matter." Bass is no more, no less important than any other voice in the music.
How important is bass to you?
Onhwy61, actually the band probably had several midrange and treble players and singers. So the bass is vastly outnumbered (but the real answer is: only one is needed--with more than one things would get really messy in a heartbeat).Bdp24, that's ...
What is your favourite Coltrane album ?
I like the Giant Steps CD reissue--it sounds great and has some really good outtakes (several versions each of Naima and Giant Steps, for instance). Lotta bang for the buck.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Zavato, is that UA or Capitol/Apple version?
"All Things Must Pass"-Tower Records Documentary
I liked the local (Austin) Tower store for its selection, its artwork on the building and its "instore" concerts (I took my kids to see/hear the Toeadies there). The store was in a building that housed a theater in earlier days (I saw "Mad Dogs an...
Garage Band Hangover
I think Lou Ann works well with Jimmie Vaughan on a few cuts on his album "Do you get the blues." I regret not having gone to listen to her in the Triple Threat Revue (SRV & Double Trouble) at Rome Inn way back in time. I have heard her at Ant...
Garage Band Hangover
Bdp, I do like Miss Lou Ann but, geez...she's not Janis.

Will my eyes burn? Will I have to wash the smoke out of my hair and clothes the next day?
Overshadowed by bandmates
I recently watched the Keith documentary on Netflix. It was enjoyable and I liked Keith as a person, but I was underwhelmed by his playing. I guess his value is higher as a songwriter than as a player. I used to admire his guitar solo on Heart of ...

Overshadowed by bandmates
Mapman, I did not know that--it makes up a bit for finding out that some of my favorite Harrison solos were played by McCartney (notably, Drive My Car and Taxman).

Oh, my bad, sorry--who's left from Canned Heat? I know Blind Owl checked out ages ago and he was my favorite, far and away.
It Was 40 Years Ago Today...
The Japanese-made Tokai strats and Les Pauls are nice guitars, well worth the money. I had a Tokai strat for 30 years. Marty, I agree about Eddie. On the other hand, I love Hendrix more with each passing year. Not the best singer, but I like his v...
