HD Down Load compared to Analog.
I'm waiting because have heard only one HD DAC source. I haven't had the time to research more or find another store to hear other units for comparison. It also gets a bit bewildering figuring out the best way to get from the computer to the pream...
How much would an additional motor help
Blueranger, is it possible to leave one motor powered off so it serves as an idler? That is if the idle motor doesn't drag down the live one. Just curious if the extra torque is the difference or if it is the additional coupling.

HD Down Load compared to Analog.
I'll share my experience with regards to HD audio. Some months back I got to listen to a very high end system. ARC 40th Anniversary Ref, Ref 610, CD8, Ref DAC and an Oracle turntable outputted to the big Maggies. It was a magical night. (Let me ju...
How much would an additional motor help
A scale model radio controlled car or airplane engine. It would be kind of loud, might need a big muffler. :)
How much would an additional motor help
How about a small R/C engine coupled with the electric motor to drive the platter. Then you can call it a Hybrid Turntable and get a tax credit.

If your tracking force is 2g, then the torque required to turn the record just by stylus drag at the outer edge of the record would be about 0.62N-mm or 0.0055 lbf-in. (That's assuming a coefficient of friction of 0.2) If you want to figure additi...
Isolation Platform for my Sota Cosmos?
Peterayer, the suspension Fn on your tt is likely in the 1-3 Hz range. At least my Sota is around that. So you can maybe measure it with a stopwatch since it is slow enough. Just excite your plinth and try to count as many cycles as you can while ...
Isolation Platform for my Sota Cosmos?
Peterayer, that is way cool. Your turntable and platform look very good. I'm sure the sound is fantastic. I have an ARC preamp and it throws a deep/wide sound stage but never forward of the front plane of the speakers. It goes deep instead. My ana...
Isolation Platform for my Sota Cosmos?
I had better isolation under my tt years ago and drifted away from that. Somehow, years ago I thought a granite base would be advantageous. I then learned some time ago that the tt sitting directly on granite was not a good thing. Now I have learn...
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927?
Always a lot of discussion about speed and speed control. I'm no expert and do not claim to be an authority here. I'm just not convinced that the differences in how these turntables sound is due largely to speed control. I believe that the majorit...
Isolation Platform for my Sota Cosmos?
I posted a picture on my system page for those interested in how the foam looks sandwiched between my turntable and shelf. I'm still enjoying the improvement it made to the clarity of the bass and the more focused images.
Isolation Platform for my Sota Cosmos?
I wouldn't have thought that isolation would be a big deal with a Sota tt since it is suspended; but I was pleasantly suprised last night with a tweak that I made to my system. Years ago I had my tt sitting directly on a granite slab. After readin...
The Engineer's Shoes..
Here are some synonyms for boring: Reality TV shows, someone elses vacation photos, driving through Ohio on I-75, eating alone, flying back from Asia in Coach (actually, that is excruciating).
What is a better route, tube or SS preamp?
If you believe that a tube preamp or amp sounds better, then it will. The same goes for Solid State. Both types of electronics are a means to an end. In the end it comes down to personal preference and affordability. Its funny how in the 80s to ea...
