Why do turntables sound different?
"Maybe all three should be matched"I would add everything thing else in the chain.  One size fits all does not really fit in audio regardless of the ad copy and graphs.
What direction is VPI headed?
Bill at Phoenix is a engineer not a car salesman.  His products worked no upgrades needed.  For a lot less money you could plug in a rpm gauge and the controller and it would adjust itself.Bill also got involved in multiple diy projects with contr...

How does cartridge loading ( a electronic circuit) change the needle in the groove position  (A mechanical adjustment)???Now maybe a CNC tonearm if they could get the vibration under control.  Then you could program all the variables to change for...

Hey Testpilot thanks for the 90% example. Takes all the subjective out of the equation. Here is one example of black and white which the debate is over. Now will the poster get it ???
Speed variance study with a Phoenix Roadrunner
Once things are stable, say after a couple of minutes, are you getting reading variations as large as .07???  That 33.403 with a 33.333 reference.  Also once warmed up how stable is the reading.  Once stabalized with a heavy platter and a 3 phase ...
VPI 2nd Pivot for 3D
Well besides being a PTA to use the rs lab tonearm broke all the rules and I read nothing but great reviews.  Super high uni pivot and a rotating head shell. When people start talking absolutes in this hobby, it tells you something.Enjoy the rideTom
Can stepup transformer be used with an MC phono stage?
Lundal has a sut that can run 5 /10/20 to 1.  If the loading plug thing is correct and you measure zero you have the cat by the tail.  Now you can do the easy math and try all kinds of values around the so called optimum value. If you do not diy yo...
Need Help with Motor/Battery for Teres 340
The other thing you may want to check is the motor bushing.  Gently, with your fingers, see if you can feel any side play. The maxon motor will do all kinds of weird things when it gets loose.  Checking the main bearing is as easy as spin it withou...
Audiophiles are not alone

Audiophiles are not alone
And your tubes and vinyl will allow you to hear what the violins sound like.  One is absolutely subjective.  The other should reproduce which subjective violin you chose.
My personal experience with Direct Drive versus Belt Drive
I have not played with or heard any myself.  Guessing they get low noise with small motors and more HP with multiple.  Trying to wrap my head around getting multiple motors to dance together.Enjoy the rideTom
My personal experience with Direct Drive versus Belt Drive
Hi HaroldIt is a work in progress just got a Brush less DC which I will run on 3 phase ac.  This was thought up by Bill at Phoenix engineering.  He has been great to the DIY group. The biggest thing in belt drives so far for me has been big heavy p...
My personal experience with Direct Drive versus Belt Drive
Has2beWell we are on the same page in music reproduction likes.  For me if the tone is not correct or close why bother.  The late Grizmo was the same way.  Your comments about CDs are also on the mark.  When things made of wood sound electronic th...
My personal experience with Direct Drive versus Belt Drive

My personal experience with Direct Drive versus Belt Drive
Hi has2beYour post may be the most intelligent thing I have read on this forum.  Your mass vs electronics statement alone, should be a must read for anyone who actually stops and thinks. The latest is idler drive comeback.  I wonder where the Rumbl...
