Micro RX 5000 Renaissance?
You mean the self proclaimed expects who are more worried about null points than platter mass. Oh and don't forget that the arm can not have it own stand. The fun never stops.Enjoy the rideTom
Valve phono stage
Chakster if you value music that sounds like music, tubes are the way to go.  If you like the way CD's sound or go after the black background nonsense, you might want spend your money on something else.Tubes are for people who can hear and feel mu...

TIME'S CELEBRATION: ORTOFON FIRST CENTURY ANNIVERSARY ! ! ! ! !
Ever notice that no one ever talks about if it sounds like real music.  These threads go on and on about null points, these tone arms, blows the other stuff away, distortion, black background, holographic, sound stage, crisp high, tight bass, etc ...
VPI ADS Versus SDS
My Opinion is that speed stability is about off-center holes, not A/C frequency. If you have a a/c sycro motor Any change in frequency with result in a change in speed.  Voltage drop only reduces the power and sometimes the vibration. If you can not...
VPI ADS Versus SDS
The reason for many controllers,  A/C sycro motors, is to stabilize frequency.  The reason some have voltage drops is to lower the vibration of the motor.  Also a big plus is to vary the frequency to get the right rpm.  Lots of things vary the rpm...
Are There Any Redpoint Owners Here
I think Peter used a Maxon DC motor.  They tend to wear out the bearings because of the side load.  If you can build electronics check out the diy forum, it has on going multiple phase controller and motor threads.  Your machine shop guy  should b...
Are There Any Redpoint Owners Here

SAT 30K+$$ TONEARM: W O R T H T O H A V E I T ?
The last 3 posts are the most intelligent thing I have read on this forum. Any one who has built tonearms has to know there are lots of variables which effect the sound. Null points are not that big on the list.People who talk in absolutes should ...
Has a component ever changed your focus?
You said more in your short question/explanation than these threads that go on forever.  I love the the scientific sound remark.  How many people realize cybels are not a electronic instrument.  Wood/plastic and brass do not make arc welding sound...
Analogue-free system
Lewn you hit the nail on the head.  Having a debate with people who believe SS and digital sound more like REAL music than Vinyl and Tubes, well you do the math.  Why anyone would come on a Vinyl forum and try to convert our poor souls to digital ...
Where can I find a VPI SAMA (600 or 300 rpm)?
Have someone open up the case and check which motor they used. Should be a Hurst.  Hurst sells direct.  About 75.00, you can check the web.The pulley should be OK but you could have someone Dial indicate it when it is on the new motor or see if it...
Why do turntables sound different?
AtmasphereWould love to hear the differences on the above 3 turntables you liked.  You have direct drive and a heavy platter with 3 motors and lighter platter with 1 papst motor.I would like to hear about the tone, body, decay, attack, pitch, and ...
Why do turntables sound different?
There is no formula for audio GESTALT, so science is not going to jump on that band wagon.Mankind science is a finite observation of infinity.  We can only hope infinity in the long run, will have its day in court. So for this finite point in time,...
