Best sounding Beatles Vinyl from tape
Have you checked out the Steve Hoffman Music Forums?  Much discussion about the best sounding versions.  The answer would probably be the first pressing from the country of origin, Britain in this case.  Unfortunately they would cost a fortune if ...
Talk but not walk?
Geoff, You are a "walker." I think that having discovered the beneficial effects of Mpingo discs, you would make some up in maple, spruce, Brazillian rosewood, etc. in different sizes and shapes. Why would ebony discs be the only wooden objects to...
Talk but not walk?
Geoff, Have you ever tried discs made out of other types of wood instead of Mpingo discs?  How about other shapes and sizes?
Talk but not walk?
Geoff,  Where do you place the Brilliant Pebbles, Super Intelligent Chip, Codename Turquoise and other products of yours in your new system?Did you phone yourself for the Teleportation Tweak and did it make a dramatic difference if you did?
Talk but not walk?
Michael or jf47t,   Please describe the mods made to the Pioneer receiver and post pictures of it somewhere we can access them.  That would be walking.  What you are doing now is talking.
Pre amps cost vs. value ... what I discovered last month.
Hi Brian, I just want to follow up on dynamic range. I agree that judicious use of compression can add some punch to an album and I know that bringing the bass up in the mix will reduce dr while possibly improving the sound of an album. But a stea...
Pre amps cost vs. value ... what I discovered last month.
Brian,  Thanks for stopping by for this chat.  I think your sample of audiophile preamps was too small. I'm pretty sure you could find something at a reasonable price that could outperform your current pre.  I'm a little surprised that you jumped ...
How Many Brimars Are There??
British tubes were labelled 12AX7 if they were destined for the American market, because that’s what we called that tube. The British designation was C.V. 4004, Common Valve 4004. The European designation was ECC 83. I’m sure that Brimar painted a...
Looks like Tidal is doomed!
I don’t know of any other service that offers MQA, but I wouldn’t be too worried. Last year streaming accounted for 65% of all music revenues. Cd, vinyl and dvd combined accounted for 15% according to the RIAA. Tidal will be around for a while and...
Fraud Alert: Audio Zoom Zoom, Netherlands
I think the best protection is to always use a credit card.  Unless you know the seller is legit do not send cash.
Tidal and MQA..two questions.
Someone will buy it. Streaming was 65% of music revenue last year. Jay-Z seems to need a lot of money so he’ll probably sell eventually. That would be OK with me as I’d rather have the emphasis on the site on something other than hip-hop/contempor...
Best Network streamer with MQA?
Aurender, Lumin , NAD 50.2
Does anyone leave their amp and preamp on all the time?
Many amps and preamps have warm up cycles of a minute or less so that the tubes are brought up to full power slowly. How would this feature figure into the leave on/turn off debate?
NOS Tung Sol 6550 VS Tung Sol 6550 New Production
I think that the 6550 the OP is referring to is used in the power supply of his preamp.  I don't think it would have the same impact that a set of NOS power tubes in an amp would.  If I'm wrong, let me know.
NOS Tung Sol 6550 VS Tung Sol 6550 New Production
They are two different tubes.  The NOS tube was made in the US in the 50s and 60s, the current tube is made in Russia and only shares the branding with the old tube.  The factory in Russia pays someone for the use of the Tung Sol name and others l...
