What is wrong here.. on Audiogon? To try to help the OP feel a little better, I have seen many threads where people ask for recommendations for a particular component and they get 50 replies recommending 45 different brands. That doesn’t help a lot either. You’re probably better o...
A good taste of DSD--what is your experience? The 1994 Virgins and the 2002 ABKCOs are both remasters of the Stones catalogs and both are said to be improvements over the 1986 ABKCO original release on CD. The 2002 remasters were done in conjunction with the Stones' catalog release on SACDI h...
A good taste of DSD--what is your experience? To the OP, I’d say if you like DSD and classical music there are a lot of SACDs or downloads available, dive right in. If you’re looking for pop, rock, jazz, etc. it’s a tougher recommendation. Japan still releases a lot of nonclassical SACDs, but...
A good taste of DSD--what is your experience? I've got Let It Bleed on one of those DSD remastered CDs. From reading the notes on the remastering in the booklet, it sounds like they transferred the tapes to digital as DSD and they feel that this resulted in a better A/D conversion. Or, if ...
The imperfect amp: Pass or Ayre? If erik wants to start threads questioning Pass amps, that's OK. There are so many positive threads and posts about Pass that trying to find any negative experiences is a good idea. Getting both sides of the story is always beneficial.erik star...
Remasters - are they better? What exactly is it? It sounds like you just prefer newer artists and recordings and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Remasters - are they better? What exactly is it? Recording equipment has improved since the 60s and really good modern recordings can be made these days. The cd is capable of much stronger bass than the LP. Digital files can be played and copied many times without losing detail. That doesn’t hav...
Remasters - are they better? What exactly is it? The idea behind remastering is to take the original master tapes and get a better transfer to the tapes (analog) or files (digital) that are going to be used by the pressing plants to make LPs or CDs.Many things can and often do go awry though. The imperfect amp: Pass or Ayre? If recordings captured performances perfectly we would want a perfect amplifier. They don't so we choose amps that allow us to enjoy imperfect recordings.
Things that make you go, "Hmmmmm...." I am probably wasting my time but I’ll give this a try anyway.Old cd players don’t appreciate in value because the technology is rapidly evolving. The Air Force doesn’t buy F-4 Phantoms any more and people don’t seek out computers from the 80s bec...
Things that make you go, "Hmmmmm...." Nostalgia doesn't drive the cd player market to the extent it does the turntable market.
Do we really need anything greater than 24/96? Opinions? Geoff, If the problem was lasers and optical discs, wouldn’t downloads and streamed music sound obviously better than CDs and SACDs?That is not the case in my personal experience and what I’ve read on forums. For example:https://forum.audiogon.com...
Why does my old CD player sound so much better than my new streamer? If your Lumin is connected by WiFi you could try an ethernet cable and see if that helps. If your Muse has a digital in connection you could try bypassing the Lumin DAC and having the DAC in the Muse do the D/A conversion.
Esoteric USA Service - TAP Electronics Good news. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Abbey Road 50th Anniversary After listening to the outtakes disc, the guys seem to be getting along much better and are much more enthused about making an album than they were during what I've heard from the "Let It Be" sessions. |
