Comparing the Pass Labs XA30.5 to the XA 30.8
That doesn't mean that many people won't prefer the .5 amps though. Everyone has different tastes in amps. Not to mention that we all hear differently too.
Comparing the Pass Labs XA30.5 to the XA 30.8
He goes on to directly compare .5 to .8:"Point 8 / Point 5 amp Differences:The Point 8 amps present a more accurate representation of the recording venue. The dimensionality of the sound stage does not change no matter how complex the material. La...
Comparing the Pass Labs XA30.5 to the XA 30.8
I don't think Nelson Pass agrees with you Cal. Here is what he says in the brochure for the .8 amps:"We’re excited! Because we’re celebrating our 23rd year by presenting the best amplifiers we’ve ever made. Our New Point 8 Series, X.8 and XA.8, op...
The first watts
It seems that there is a disconnect between theory and practice here. A speaker rated at 87db is considered to have moderately low sensitivity. I would say that most speakers have a higher sensitivity today. If 10 watts powers that speaker to 92db,...
Tinnitus
Andrewrona, I guess I was typing my post as you were posting yours. Please keep us informed as to how the Tamer works for you.
Tinnitus
Andrewrona, Have you or anyone you know tried Tinnitus Tamer and found it effective? I know you are trying to be helpful but the net is full of useless remedies. The fact that it only costs $35 may be a means to get more people to try it and then ...
Tube question - need new ones
c-j tells you that you should only use tubes purchased from them. They may test their tubes more than others but there is nothing unique about their tubes. You can buy tubes from other vendors and many people do. Many people also tube roll in c-j ...
is 17ls2 a good match?
Korykats, Why don't you try a VTL preamp? Instead of trying to find a preamp that has a nice synergy with your VTL amps, go with a preamp that the designer of your amps feels is a good match. If you're not happy with a VTL pre, then start the tria...
is 17ls2 a good match?
I can't help you with your specific question but I have owned the c-j 17ls2. It's a very good preamp with a nice rich sound. It is not as detailed as good newer preamps. This was c-j's first step away from the golden sound they were known for and ...
Why do designers/manufacturers...?
Geoffkait, I'm not looking for an argument, just curious. What do your Mpingo disks do and why do you think they have been forgotten?
Not as much activity on analog here
Rockitman, Please point out where I said anything negative about vinyl or you said anything positive about digital. From your 1st post, One problem...the bulk of the music engineered in digital just plain sucks. From your 2nd post, Digital is the p...
Why do designers/manufacturers...?
Have you noticed that many tweaks go in and out of style? For a couple of examples, I can remember when people were knocked out by Mpingo disks and green cd pens. That's not to say that all tweaks are ineffective, but I'm sure some are.
Not as much activity on analog here
I apologize to the thread. I didn't mean to turn this into another analog vs digital argument. When discussing this stuff I think we need to remember that we are talking about personal preference. All our ears and brains hear differently, and you ...
Not as much activity on analog here
Let me just add that cd, through reissues, compilations, box sets , etc, has given me access to everything from women blues shouters from the twenties, to all kinds of prewar blues and country, to everything that Hank Williams ever recorded, to Lo...
Not as much activity on analog here
Rockitman, you're listening to the wrong music. The majority of music recorded from the fifties to the eighties was crap and the majority being recorded today is crap. There is a lot of good music being recorded today though, there always is. I pe...
