Whats playing on your system today?
Marie Stockmarr Becker and Ilaria Macedonia: J S Bach Sonatas for Viola (da Gamba) and Harpsichord. Channel Classics Records, 2021. Very well recorded. the Viola is a palpable presence in the room, as they say.
Greatest Songwriter of all time
Impressive lists. I agree: Leonard Cohen, no one else even close. But I’m shocked no one has mentioned Mary Chaplin Carpenter.
Welcome to Hell, here's your 8-Track
In 1983 or so I got a good deal on a 1976 Monte Carlo with a built in 8 track. Whenever I listen to A Remark You Made on the Heavy Weather album it takes me back to a specific wintery late night, driving through the slush along side a steel mill w...
Only two tracks to test your system, forever!
KD Lang: After the Gold Rush (Hymns of the 49th Parallel) Jack deJohnette: Alabama (In Movement)
What was the last CD you bought (Name, and year issued)?
Richie Havens.  Stonehenge. 1970. And it was hard to find a decent copy at a decent price.
To preamp or not to preamp. That is the question.
I’ve tried it both ways, two different times, and each time I decided to keep the preamp. I use a Cambridge 851N streamer/DAC feeding a Bel Canto PRE5 to Bel Canto ref500 monoblocks, driving Dali Mentor 6 floorstanders. With the preamp in the syst...

Concerning high end audio names in new cars
Before I retired I drove 2500 miles a month. Sound was very important. My then Mercedes e class had a Harmon Kardon system that sounded great. I traded that for a 2018 with the new Burmester system—miles ahead of the HK. It still surprises me now ...
Jazz for aficionados
I’ve been keeping a “Covid” list — things that belong in my collection and that have been released and or first heard by me these last two years: Charles Lloyd and the Marvels: Tone Poem Dave Holland et al.: Good Hope Marcin Wasilewski Trio w J...
Do good power cords have to be stiff?
I was using Nordost Vishnus in my mid level system. A clear improvement over stock.  But they too were somewhat stiff. Replaced them with Morrow MAP3s which sound just as good as the Nordost and are quite flexible. If I get the upgrade itch I will...
