Oh man, I broke my class D amp. Make fun of me. Then help.
Wow, thanks everyone. Good to know I’m not alone! Yesterday I did the best thing one can do after screwing up royally: I took my kids and their friends to a beautiful Ozark swimming hole and we spent 9 hours basking in beauty and playing in a wate...
Oh man, I broke my class D amp. Make fun of me. Then help.
Thanks guys! I'm going to see if I can get a replacement board first. If not I'll just order a new pair.  They're going for $1100 for a pair. I could buy one for $600, but they changed the design, so they wouldn't be exactly the same. I'm far too ...
Class D is just Dandy!
I opened the case up... It's crowded in there. Ain't no way I'm fixing anything on that board. And they changed the design of the monos, so I can't seem to buy just one.. ugh. New amps, I guess. Anyone need a subwoofer amp?

Class D is just Dandy!
@confuse_upgradeitis - I used a crown xls1500 for about two years. This past winter I bought a used pair of Ghent audio class D monoblocks here on Audiogon. I was sceptical, since their power ratings were the same, but I was getting too curious ab...
Doh, left system off all night
Yeah, I only leave my class D amps on. Everything else gets shut off when I'm done. No way am I leaving my tube pre on all the time. That sucker gets hot! I can only imagine how toasty tube amps would get!
Has anyone had experiences good or bad with speaker isolation or isolation in general ?
@playpen holy crunk, those weights are crazy! That was not what I was picturing. I love that they both look like vessels for consuming delicious alcoholic beverages. What better to tune your system with?!Well done on posting pics. I sure wish this...
Help me build speaker cables please!
Yeah man, the space that has opened up with these cables! I love electronic music and I've recently purchased an ambient album of particularly good sound quality. The mastering was spot on and the vinyl pressing is impeccable. One track in particu...
Speaker jumpers
@fsilahua - it's funny, I wondered about all those parts in my modest system, spent some time and a small amount of money to DIY upgrade them, and was rewarded with a significant improvement in sound. It is pure folly to stress about whether or not...

Man, you and your blog! Chock full of info. It's funny, I found that before I ever got on Audiogon...I did notice that you mixed up your neutral and signal conductors in your parts list. You listed the twisted pair as your signal and the silver pl...
Help me build speaker cables please!
Man, my amazing wife took the kids out and I’m sitting here listening.. these sound so good! I just want to settle on a final design and build them, but I definitely need to spend the time to find the right geometry & materials. Ah, the endles...
Your last concert was to see who and when?
I saw O.A.R. and Train with my 13 year old. O.A.R. was good. Train was meh. Both, though, had horrible sound. Too loud and way too much treble. I've been noticing this more and more lately, the sound guys are making everything almost painful to li...
Help me build speaker cables please!
Oh, BTW, what did you use for your signal conductor?
Help me build speaker cables please!
Damn, you're fast! Great write up.I made my first iteration last night. I wound mine by hand.. should have used a drill! The first iteration has the 2 x 12awg silver plated copper in teflon as the neutral and one run of cat 5 cable as the signal. ...
Preamp issue?
I'm voting for tube issues too. I've had power tubes go bad very quickly, leading to popping, crackling and the like. The good thing about my pre coming with crappy Chinese tubes was that I replaced them immediately, leaving me a spare set (of infe...
