What is the most difficult component to upgrade The preamp is a puzzler all right... why the heck should it make so much difference? After all, it basically just does switching and a little bit of amplification, as well as volume control. And then there's balance and... OK there's a lot to get ...
Need Help With Cartridge Re-tipping Benz Micro will do re-tips also. I have heard Koetsu, Kiseki and Cardas-Benz cartridges re-tipped by Benz and they sounded great.
Verity Parsifal Encore opinions If I ever upgrade from my Meadowlark Shearwater Hot Rods I will start auditions with the Parsifal Encore. I have heard this speaker at two shows now and I loved it every time. Dynamics were amazing, imaging spectacular.
Linn Ikemi CD Player vs. Other Lower Cost Options I have a Shanling CD-T100 with NOS WE 396 tubes in the analog output section. US$ 1995 on AudiogoN, NOS tubes extra. I posted a review here. Before buying the Shanling I auditioned the Ikemi and I loved it--the Ikemi, that is. But I bought a Shanli...
Monitor speakers pros/cons Woops, please excuse the duplicate posts, folks. Must try to find a better way to increase my readership ;-)

CDP upgrade or even swap - what can 2-3K buy? I like my Shanling CD-T100 a lot. It's $ 2K. Check out the reviews here.It needs a long burn in, at least 200 hours. It keeps getting better after that. Sounds best with NOS tubes.

Opinions on AudioMeca Keops I've heard this unit under show conditions ( read : far from ideal ), with Verity Audio Tamino speakers. I've forgotten what the amplification was. My recollection is of very nice sound for a show. Audiomeca also makes excellent analog equipment, ...
Any opinions on Copland CDA 289 CD player? If you're looking for reviews, UHF Magazine had one in issue 55--see www.uhfmag.com. They liked it.
If you bought a Linn Karik that arrived DOA.. This is tough. Probably the best you can hope for is good faith. It does seem hard to hear that a unit is in perfect shape ( read : " for its age, " ) and then discover it is pushing up the daisies. At least the dealer is offering some settlement. ...
best used speaker for around 2500? I had money to spare after buying my pair ( Hot Rod version ). Wonderfully extended, neutral and musical with a superb midrange. I have a Copland CTA-301 myself, with a Celeste W-4070SE and Ensemble Voiceflux biwire cables.
Whats the deal with CD players? You should be able to hear a difference between players at the lower and higher ends of the scale, but without knowing which ones you've actually listened to it's hard to guess what might help. Even with crap downstream, you should notice a differ... |
