Opinions on Upgrade Path
One of the best ways to do biamping is using identical amps in a vertical configuration (one amp for each speaker) with an external crossover bypassing the speaker’s internal crossover. See this diagram:http://www.djsociety.org/Graphic/bi-amp.gif ...
Speakers for Rock - up to 1kusd
Like paraneer says, it is best to match amp and speakers, however it is important to look at some specs carefully. The Paradigm 20 and B&W 685 have almost identical specs.B&W 685 - 87db, 8 ohm dropping to a 3.5 ohm minimumParadigm 20 - 87d...
Vintage threshold
Look at the first response here,https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/threshold-s300 Seems to be correct except for info regarding "e" series. The S300 series II was discontinued in '88, however never available new as an "e" version. The "e" seri...
Is it necessary to use the same cable brand and model for bi-wiring??
Put 10 audiophiles in a room to discuss biwire, and they will emerge with at least 11 different theories. The majority of speakers today have biwire connections, however only a minority have been specifically designed for this from the ground up....
Receiver for Klipschorn Home Theater
The PSB center is an extreme mismatch to use with KHorns. Besides being a timbre mismatch, there is a 14db difference in sensitivity. That PSB center will need a huge amount of additional power to keep up with the KHorns, and most A/V receivers gi...
Narrowed Down My Choices; Opinions Welcome
Just so you know, the efficiency is not quite as high as it appears. The sensitivity of your speakers is 90db/1m/1w or 93db/1m/2w.Take a look at my post on your other thread. I'm not familiar with these amps, but I would think any of them should be...
how do you select a center channel to match when the company only makes monitor speakers?
I definitely would NOT use another brand of center speaker. At best the overall sound from the front would be mediocre or it may even ruin the sound from the Harbeths. Take a look at this article,http://www.soundandvision.com/content/matching-fron...
WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH WATTS?
From looking at larstusor's previous threads, the speakers are KEF 105/3. The spec for sensitivity is 93db/1m/2.83v. Since this is a 4 ohm speaker, that 93db is using 2 watts. The sensitivity for 1 watt will be 90db, so not quite as high as it app...
Cabinet Colors
I agree, substantially, and I drive a white car.
Oh brother, am I in desperate need of help! 8)
I'm sure the Dynaudio Focus 260 is a fine speaker, however being a 4 ohm with 87db sensitivity, IMHO, I seriously doubt it will have the punch and "get-up-and-go" you are looking for even with your larger amp. In comparison the Magnepan 1.7 is a 4...
Oh brother, am I in desperate need of help! 8)
Lots of fine speakers listed here and I've had experience with some of them, however IMHO I don't think most of them will do what he is asking. Seadweller, since you play drums along with the very positive experience using the Altecs, I think any...
Your not a serious audiophile I'd you have??????
You're not a serious audiophile unless you have taken out a second mortgage on your house to fund an upgrade for your system.
And now, Introducing....
"i choose to save for flying car."May not have to wait too long as some reports say it will be available for sale next year.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzYb68qXpD0

"Apparently it’s for real."Ivan, you can’t be serious. Look at the logo under the tape, DUBLY? And the tape, Kingston Duo?  April Fool’s joke, big time!
